I have travelled to Majorca on 2 separate occasions. On the first of these I decided to go to the lively Magaluf with friends.

I left Bristol Airport at 11.30 to arrive in Majorca (Palma Airport) at 14.35 Local time (they are an hour in front).

The flight was just over 2 hours, and as I was a nervous flyer (it being my first time on a plane) it was the perfect distance to break me in.

**Palma Airport**

When I arrived a Palma Airport the security wasn't as strict as in the UK. As we got into the airport we were ushered through into the luggage retrieval area. (This is after they quickly checked our passports)

The walk from the initial arrival lounge to the luggage retrieval was quite a trek! Fortunately they had moving walkways, which helped, and if you had walking difficulties they had chauffeured golf carts that would transport you to the luggage retrieval.

Once we arrived at the luggage retrieval, it didn't take long for the luggage to start coming through. The staff was all multi-lingual so were able to help, and there were plenty of trolleys readily available.

Once we had retrieved all our luggage we boarded the coach to Magaluf.

Magaluf is just short distance from the airport. This was fortunate as the coach we were provided with wasn't air-conditioned and the driver was slightly erratic.

**Magaluf in the day**

Magaluf in the day time was alive with shops and markets. It was full of Spanish culture and McDonalds!
It was easy top walk around Magaluf and feel safe due to it being a mainly commercialised tourist area.

The beach in Magaluf is amazing. It has perfect golden sands, which seem to stretch for miles. On the beach there are sun beds (although there is a fee for using these). There are also parasols situated across the beach which are free to use.

There was one issue on the beach which we were warned about by our tour operator. The "looky looky"men. These are local Spanish men who approach tourist and offer them goods such as sunglasses, belts etc. They were also known drug peddlers.

Surrounding the beach there are many bistros. All reasonably priced. For example a 3 course meal in Magaluf would cost in the region of £8.50. All the Spanish staff were more than happy to help, and all very friendly.

**Magaluf at Night**

Wow doesn't Magaluf wakeup at night! If you're looking for a place to enjoy a few quiet drinks, Magaluf wouldn't be a good choice for you.

Magaluf came alive around about 7pm. There was an array of bars and clubs which offered incentives to come in and have a drink or 6!

I went out of season, but still this clubbing capital was heaving. There is the legendary BCM club in Majorca.

There were many different sorts of bars throughout Magaluf. From British bars to the traditional Spanish bars. Something for every taste. All had different activities going on, such as karaoke and drinking competitions.

By the time I decided to walk back to my hotel is was 9am! A fantastic night out, to be vaguely remembered in the morning!

I would recommend Magaluf to the lively holidaymaker. If you enjoy going out drinking every night and sleeping through the day then this would be the perfect holiday for you.

**Weather**

I went to Magaluf in October, the weather was fantastic. It was lovely and warm, roughly around the 80 Fahrenheit mark, and there wasn't a drop of rain.

I was told that with Majorca it can be lovely on one side of the Island but not so nice on the other weather-wise. Didn't I find this out on my second visit to Majorca.

On my second visit I went to Sa Coma(the opposite side on the Island to Majorca). This time I went in May. The weather let us down due to it raining for almost the full week we were out there. The temperature didn't reach any more than 70 Fahrenheit, and it was rather windy. (unfortunately in the UK it was hotter! Typical!)

**Sa Coma**

On my second visit to Majorca I went to the quieter Sa Coma. This is a very beautiful part of the Island, and it is close to Alcudia, and Puerto Christo.

This Part of Majorca catered for a more relaxed holiday maker. Sa Coma had a few restaurants and bars, but they closed at latest 3am. The beach on Sa Coma was also much smaller than Magaluf, but it was no where near as busy.

There were a few local souvenir shops, as Sa Coma was not commercialised like Magaluf.

In Sa Coma there was a bus service to all the local areas, such as the caves of drac, and the surrounding areas.

Taking the bus was an adventure itself! The driver spoke no English; the bus was packed to capacity, and we stood by the door. The bus driver then stopped at the next stop, and people were holding on to the stairwell with the door open to travel.

Although a bit daunting at the time, I can look back and laugh as it is one of the stronger memories of Majorca.

**The caves of Drac**

The caves were one of the more exciting parts of the holiday. Naturally made caves which had been opened to the public to view.

We were given a tour of the caves by a Spanish tour guide. He was fantastic, and so was his English.

The caves weren't expensive to go into, although pictures taken by the operator are very expensive so try and avoid those if possible. Also the souvenirs were expensive.

All I can say is they are breathe taking!

I have added a picture although this does not do the caves justice.

**Summary**

I would recommend Majorca to anyone although depending on what sort of holiday you want depends on what side of the Island you visit.

If you are looking for a lively holiday, Majorca and Palma are the places for you, as they support the clubs and activity side.

If you're looking for a more relaxed environment for your holiday, then Sa Coma, Alcudia and Peurto Christo may be a better choice for you. These are more picturesque areas and don't have the hussle and bussle of the clubbing capital.

Weather-wise I would recommend checking what the weather has been like the previous week, as this will give you a rough idea on how the weather is going to be for you.

May seems to rain quite a lot, and October seems beautiful weather.
