Advantages: Not far from town Disadvantages: If you are looking for a beach resort-hotel, this is not the place ...be called Jesselton Town) Hyatt Kota Kinabalu is located next to a shopping mall, Wisma Merdeka. Location wise, it is a good hotel because a major shopping mall is right next to it and within walking distance, you could reach the sunday morning market which is a popular tourist spot. The hotel is about 15-20 minutes away from the KK International Airport. (Note: This is not the airport where AirAsia, Asia's budget airline, lands) From the airport, ... ...is a boutique hotel with Hyatt equivalent rates. KK is heavily crowded with tourists and there are also many different races (Indonesian, Chinese, Malay, Indians, Filipinos etc) staying there. I might stay at a different hotel for my next visit even though I am not unsatisfied with this hotel the reason being other hotels have clearer sea water where you can see beautiful coral-reefs without even going out to the islands. sunway lagoon resort Advantages: excellent value for money Disadvantages: if you hate shopping malls-stay away This resort is out of this world! It is like pulling up to a mini Las Vegas.Strings of neon lights,lots of people,restaurants,bars line the outside of it that is because this resort hotel is attached to a massive shopping complex, waterpark, ice rink.It actually has anything you can think of and is perfect for family, shoppers, people wanting relaxing time, nightlife and good food. It is excellent value for money, the rooms higher up than level 10 ... ...if you are staying longer(for business etc).The staff are very helpful and welcoming, they will know you by name within a week. The hotels restaurant has a buffet breakfast, dinner and lounge bar or you can keep walking straight through to an array of restaurants in the shopping mall. Cheated by Sutera Harbour Resort Advantages: Nice seaside at East Malaysia Disadvantages: Raining season is no good at all I booked the Magellan Sutera Harbour and paid for 12 nights for about £1200 for my friends during Feb 2008. The first day my friends arrived there at the hotel, it was just raining for the whole day and nothing they can do in the hotel. Food and everything are expensive and even can be like the London price. The worst part is after 2 rainy days there, my friends need to urgently travel back to the UK and at the same time the hotel promised to invoice ... ...the remainder 10 nights. The Sutera Harbour hotel told me that they have to charge for full 12 nights due to a highly booked season but actually my friends told me that the hotel was not full at all. I will not recommend to anyone to use this hotel again. They are not only cheating tavellers, they also cheating the local people like me. Nice hotel but beach is not excellent Advantages: Huge room, great pools, lots of facilities at the hotel Disadvantages: A bit on the expensive side, the beach is not that nice ...a room at the hotel Pelangi beach resort and we booked through their website http://www.pelangibeachresort.com/ . We had to pay 533 Ringgit (about 75£) for the room per night and this did not include breakfast. On March 25th we went from Perhentian Island to Langkawi. It was a long day as we had to get up early, catch the boat to the main land, drive to the airport at Kota Bharu, go to KL and from there take the flight to Langkawi. Both Malaysia ... ...1 hour.. The hotel Pelangi beach hotel complex is huge. When we got there the check in was fast and efficient and we were driven to our room in a little golf car as the hotel is spread out on a fairly big area. We got room 3601 which has a lake view. Our room was located in house 36 and it contained 4 rooms on 2 levels. When we got in we saw that we had taken a step up in quality of accommodation compared to Perhentian Island resort. beautiful view, shame about the hairdryer Advantages: on the waterfront, good pool, friendly service Disadvantages: dated rooms Stayed for 4 nights with family, and were met by an army of porters and workers whose sole responsibility was to smile at us. The staff are welcoming and public areas very modern, but the rooms are bland and dated, with enormous yellow hairdryers the size of a pillow. The pool is great to unwind in the afternoon, and breakfast is a sprawling buffet of choice, with waffle, noodle, dim sum and omelette stations.
