Wish I was still there!
Advantages: relaxing, friendly staff, great pool Disadvantages: expensive food
We went to this hotel in April 2008, as part of a last minute deal. Both myself and my partner thought this hotel was brilliant and would stay here again.
The first thing that surprises you about the hotel is the fact that as you cross the threshold of the hotel, they hit a gong which I think is a traditional welcome. Instead of having to stand in line at the reception desk, you get shown to a seat in the lobby while a member of staff sorts everything ... ...served with a nice glass of iced peach tea, which is just what you need after about 16 hours of traveling. We stayed in a deluxe garden view room, which was very nice. In the bathroom, you have the usual bath, shower, sink, toilet and towels. In the main room, you have the main bedroom area, then down a little step is a cute little sitting area, which leads onto the balcony which has a table and two chairs on it.
The facilities in the room include ...

Hyatt KK !
Advantages: Not far from town Disadvantages: If you are looking for a beach resort-hotel, this is not the place
...be called Jesselton Town)
Hyatt Kota Kinabalu is located next to a shopping mall, Wisma Merdeka. Location wise, it is a good hotel because a major shopping mall is right next to it and within walking distance, you could reach the sunday morning market which is a popular tourist spot. The hotel is about 15-20 minutes away from the KK International Airport. (Note: This is not the airport where AirAsia, Asia's budget airline, lands) From the airport, ... ...is a boutique hotel with Hyatt equivalent rates.
KK is heavily crowded with tourists and there are also many different races (Indonesian, Chinese, Malay, Indians, Filipinos etc) staying there.
I might stay at a different hotel for my next visit even though I am not unsatisfied with this hotel the reason being other hotels have clearer sea water where you can see beautiful coral-reefs without even going out to the islands. Of course, the rate is ...

beautiful view, shame about the hairdryer
Advantages: on the waterfront, good pool, friendly service Disadvantages: dated rooms
Stayed for 4 nights with family, and were met by an army of porters and workers whose sole responsibility was to smile at us. The staff are welcoming and public areas very modern, but the rooms are bland and dated, with enormous yellow hairdryers the size of a pillow. The pool is great to unwind in the afternoon, and breakfast is a sprawling buffet of choice, with waffle, noodle, dim sum and omelette stations. We, like most other guests were there ...

Rainforest, Beach & Service.
Advantages: Peace and tranquility in a stunning location Disadvantages: Long way from any local shops or restaurants
...out of this world is the best way i can describe my stay at the Datai. Although set within the beautiful rainforests of Langkawi you are also just metres from a stunning stretch of sandy beach.
I stayed in one of the Deluxe rooms at the top of the resort, which I found to be extremely spacious, the room had a king size bed, a large bathroom, a balcony which upon waking, would often find a small family of monkeys tucking into their breakfasts and ... ...the Andman Sea.
There are villas further down the resort, some with private pools, nearer the beach and Spa. I prefered the views from the top of the hotel so the deluxe rooms or corner suites would be my choice of room on my next visit. The standard of service I received, even by Asian standards was extremely high and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff.
If this review tempts anybody to visit the Datai whilst you are there I would ...

Bliss in the double ensuite
Advantages: Huge room, own bathroom with bath and shower, very cheap Disadvantages: Simple breakfast, miserable receptionist, bit of a walk to bus station
...getting a cab to our hotel as there were a load of drivers calling out at us to give us a ride. It took about 15 minutes from here to get to Hotel Mingood which is in the historical Georgetown (the main town in Penang). The drive is an interesting one taking you past what is typical Malaysia - a run down and falling apart shed with washing hanging up on a line outside and a dirty dog sleeping in the mud (hard to believe this is someone's home) whilst ... ...the bus. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to a shopping centre, supermarket and New World Park which is a fab new outdoor complex (opened in January 08) with a load of restaurants ranging from expensive and fancy cuisine, affordable bars and cafes or a cheap food court. There's also a stage where entertainment is held. A 20 minute walk in the opposite direction will take you to the main road and the bus station where every bus on the island stops. On ...
