Port Dickson in the central state of Negeri Sembilan in Peninsular Malaysia,is one of that nation's most popular seaside resorts,in part explained by the fact that it is near Kuala Lumpur. Today this resort attracts large numbers of excursionists from the heavily populated Klang Valley who enjoy going to its miles of beaches, swimming, fishing, boating and other water based recreational activities. During weekdays it is a pleasant, laid back, resort with not too many visitors but during public holidays and weekends it tends to become rather over crowded. There are a number of condominiums,de luxe hotels, medium priced hotels and budget accommodations and another major attraction of this resort is its seafood. There are a host of stalls, spartan coffee shops and more up scale eateries specialising in the likes of buttered prawns, barbecued crabs, fried squid, and fish and chips. There is a Yacht Club in Port Dickson,a small golf course, several discos and night clubs in town and one or two British style pubs. The area also houses a famous lighthouse at Port Richardo and the views from the top of the steps looking across the Straits of Malacca are quite stunning.
