I recently flew with MAS to go to New Zealand. I managed to get a fantastic deal flying return from Aberdeen to Auckland return, although I did have to pay about 6 months in advance to get the deal. They're in partnership with British Midland which means you can get good deals on domestic connections if you need to fly to Manchester or Heathrow.
The service is excellent, very courteous and pleasant, and you're regularly giving drinks and snacks, as well as two hot meals on both legs of the journey. Anything else you need is just a button away if you need more drinks or snacks.
There are a selection of movies and programmes, as well as nintendo arcade games to while away the long hours on your flight which will keep you amused as well.
One of the things that impressed me most however was that on the way out I had 10 hours in Kuala Lumpur between flights. Malaysian organised an extremely plush hotel, transport and lunch for absolutely no charge for all of us flying on to other destinations. It was excellent to have a hotel room for the day and lunch, and of course a stretch of legs and a shower.
In terms of leg space on long hauls there's not a tremendous amount in economy class, but business class and first looked rather spacious if you can afford it.
Certainly for flights to Australiasia or Asia they would be my first choice and they do cover a wide range of destinations.

Advantages: Helpful staff, comfortable planes, individual screens and good food. Disadvantages: None really, but often a bit more expensive than budget flights
