Malaysian Airlines recently won the accolade of best cabin crew 2004. I was therefore looking forward to my first flight with Malaysian Airlines, and they certainly lived up to the deserved recognition. . Check in at Heathrow was quick and simple and boarding and take off were on time both directions. . Once seated, the main advantage is the 34 inch seat pitch. Malaysian Airlines are one of the few remaining airlines to offer generous leg room in economy class. Each seat has its own inflight entertainment screen with choice of films, videos and music channels. My sound system was slightly faulty, but as I prefer a few drinks and a book, this did not affect me. . There were two main meals served in each direction with snacks in between. I would say food was slightly above average airline food. A choice of 3 alternative meals offered, drinks and wine complimentary. There was no problem requesting additional drinks throughout the flight. . A 12 hour flight in economy is not a pleasurable experience but this was made tolerable by the friendly crew. Call buttons were answered immediately and requests for extra drinks greeted with a smile – other airlines should take note. The crew were very pleasant throughout the flight and more than willing to chat to passengers. They paid particular attention to a group of children, chatting to them and making sure they did not disturb other passengers. . All-in-all a very good and efficient airline. It is well worth considering, not only flying to Malaysia, but connections to other far-east destinations.
