Married father of one 2 year old. Working in a printing design studio on Apple Mac's and have an abiding interest in new technology and gadgets (without the wallet to indulge).

I travel with my wife to Australia annually, to visit her relatives, and for the past seven years, we have flown with Malaysian. The first two times that I travelled to Oz, we went with Gulf and a combination of BA and Quantas. The reason for a change was that Gulf was cramped and the airport at the refuelling stop-over had very basic amenities. And on both BA and Quantas, the air conditioning broke, leaving the cabin either too hot or too cold (not nice for 12 hours).
Malaysian were chosen for the next holiday. The choice was made because of the relatively cheap flight, and that they had an extra 2 inches of leg room compared to most other carriers (both my wife and I are 6 foot +). I must say that both my wife and I were left impressed after the holiday.
POSITIVES
The extra 2 inches of legroom make a big difference. I am able to sit with my legs straight, and not at an angle. This makes the whole experience much more comfortable on long haul flights.
The meals are well thought out. They are mainly of an Asian nature (of course), but more like Thai than Chinese. They are light and easy to digest. You can get Western food as well.
All the toilets are kept relatively clean and working. On the Gulf and BA flights, several of the toilets were out of order by the end of the flight, leading to very long queues.
The refuelling stop is in Kuala Lumpur. The airport is very clean and has plenty of amenities. Most of the shops will accept credit cards for any size purchases, so if you don't have any local money, you can get a snack and a drink. There is also a hotel off of one of the gates, where you can hire a room in six hour blocks for around £20. This was a godsend on our last trip with our one year old (they also supply cots on request).
NEGATIVES
Not a lot really. The only thing has been getting our air miles credited to our KLM loyalty card (KLM and Malaysian are partners). KLM have changed the way in which they deal with this since merging with Air France, leading to several requests having to be sent.
All in all I will be using them again.

good review, where did you fly from? I'm flying from Heathrow to Phuket via Kuala Lumpur for the first time this November and am finding a lot of varied reviews on the airline. Maybe you could help me out with something I've been wondering and can't seem to find info about, what is in their flight comfort bag? As in do they provide you with a blanket, eyemask etc? Any info would be very very appreciated.
