On our second visit to the beautiful Maldives we plumped for a larger island (Summer Island with Cosmos our first and the one that got us hooked!).Kuramathi Island is split into three distinct areas however it is easy (walking one end to the other takes around 15 minutes)to get around and there is even a free mini bus service if your'e feeeling a little bloated after one of the fantastic meals in one of the coconut thatched restaraunts (Thai/Italian/Indian styles and a very English tea and sandwiches area set in beautiful tropical gardens make this a culinary delight!). We travelled with KUONI and the flight out with Monarch was fine if a little cramped however all negatives when catching sight of the Island just disappeared..pristine white sandy beaches and our gorgeous basic but clean and comfortable beach-bungalow literally feet away from the amazingly clear and warm sea.Kuramathi village is the main area where the reception and most of the UK travellers stay and the staff are the most charming and attentive we have come across in a long time..this island has its own eco-station with resident marine expert. Snorkelling and Scuba (PADI stations in each section) as you would expect for the Maldives but how about a full size football pitch (where the staff have their own team and love to have the guests to join in practice) If you want to leave a great tip English soccer shirts go down a treat. The best part of the island is at the northern tip where you seem to come to a dead end yet through a gap in the bushes you magically enter onto an amazing sand bar which stretches almost half a mile while only around twenty feet wide of pure white sand sandwiched between the bluest warmest fish laden waters you can imagine (wonderful for photographs and romantic evening strolls). Even when the island is full it has no feeling of being crowded and the biggest complment I can think of is....we will be back !
Advantages: Stunning beaches, other restaurants to eat at Disadvantages: Some staff were a bit too pushy for a tip
...a large island for the Maldives so is split into 3 resorts but still only takes around 20 mins to walk to the other end. The AI offered is really good for the Maldives as often there are extras like cocktails to pay for, but not here, it really was AI, even got a weeks hire of snorkel equipment and 2 free trips thrown in. Room was lovely, large b/room with outside shower and huge 4 poster bed. AI restuarant was very good with many options but would ...
