- Ooh ahh Malia- After a long hard working year, i managed to actually get a holiday! We didin't have a lot of money to spend so we surfed the net for a fairly cheap, sun holiday in September. Knowing all the kids would be back at school, going at this time gave us more opitions for our money. Well I finally have enough time to write a review on Malia, a small island in Crete, Greece. I visited Malia this summer with my friends and found it to be one of the most exciting yet laid back cities in Europe. I hope to share my experiences of Malia to the Ciao community. Brief History: Malia is located on the Greek Island of Crete, 34km west of Heraklion, the largest city and capital of Crete. I’ve been a bit quite on my reviews lately, a mixture of being busy at work, and having taken a week’s holiday in the sun! I usually like to holiday at a different destination every year as I find it just too exciting packing my bags and imaging what it might actually be like at my chosen destination, rather than the glossy pictures displayed in the brochure. Crete is the largest of the Greek islands it is roughly 160 miles long and 37 miles wide (courtesy of wikipedia) and Malia is situated on the north coast. I chose to book a holiday to Crete as I liked the sound of the island and it fitted our budget at the time, I did not specifically choose to go to Malia; I guess I need to explain. Whether you have noticed or not, I have been away from Ciao for 2 weeks, and I’ve been on holiday. It was a bit of a last minute thing. I’ve just split up with my long term boyfriend and I needed to escape for a while, so we booked a fortnight of fun in the sun in Malia.
