Malia is a great place to go for a holiday, it certainly has the sun, its usually in the 30's in June/July. The bars/clubs are on one long street in centre of malia, the beach is situated at the bottom of that strip. It's quite a clean beach too.... some watersports available but I did go in 2002, so probs more now!
I've been a couple of times and its def more for the young and lively. Age group was roughly around 17 - late 20's - It tends to die off end August so not a place to go after then really if you are wanting a lively holiday a that time of yr! There arent many stores there, just the usuall little greek shops etc....so is shopping's your thing you'll have to travel into the main town.
Plenty restaurants to choose from, the meals seemed quite cheap too... there's even a little hairdressers there too. The old town is at the top end of the resort - its more for families there plenty bars/restaurants etc....
The nightlife is excellent there you can never make it down the end of the street in one night there are so many pubs, it starts to get busy around 9 - 10pm, then on till the wee hours of the morning !!
Its Greece so there's the usual "loo" problem as Im sure you'll know what I mean !
Only problem I had was the PR's like anywhere else they were a bit pushy.
I went with 2wenty's first time there and I would recommend to young people to go with them they were excellent and made a big difference to that holiday.

We went to Stalis which is on the main road between heraklion and malia, between malia and hersossinos - a littel quieter than malia and much more my taste. Nice op. Marc
