The Room: Our room was on the top floor with a great view of the redeveloped dock area. There are no long corridors with lots of rooms, you feel private and hidden away - our room being up a winding staircase. The room itself was huge with four sash windows, the bed was also massive and very, very comfy! The decor and furnishings were modern, stylish and comfortable. There was a small tv and also a stereo system which was great (the hotel reception has a library of cds from which you can borrow, in case you don't have your own). The bathroom was big, clean and modern and it was also really warm. There was a nice selection of aromatheraphy toiletries and big, fluffy, white towels were also on hand. The shower was very powerful: a definite bonus and the bath was big enough for two! ;) There's a minibar in the room and it's full of treats like pringles, toblerones, cocktails etc.. (beware there's no price list in the room) we consumed much of it and paid the price!! The other bonus with the room was that it was quiet and felt very private. (room 42 so you know).
Service: The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful (albeit I needed some help with some accents!). We had a meal from the restaurant in our room and it arrived promptly and was still hot (unlike many hotel's room service).
Overall I was very impressed with the hotel, the service and the food. I will definitely go again and have no hesitation in recommending it to others.
Advantages: rooms, views, hi-fi, mini-bar, huge beds, style and decor, location Disadvantages: location, bistro, getting a room
Malmaison is known for top quality at affordable prices and the hotel in Leith doesn't disappoint. Although it's a bit of a trek from the city centre (15 mins in a cab), it shouldn't cost more that £8-10 at the most. The hotel is situated on the quayside at Leith, alongside swanky new appartments, the Scottish Executive and some of the older industrial buildings that are being converted or are still in use. The square outside is decorated with sculpted ... ...stylish designer look of the lobby gives you the right impression about the place.
If you get a chance ask for a room facing the docks. You can watch the ships cruise past the docks, and watching the sun set over the sea with the mountains in the background adds to the experience. We stayed in Room No. 1, which has a great 4 poster bed and views out over the docks. The room's are individually decorated and ours was sumptious. A vast bed, littered ...

Advantages: Some of the best food you are likely to eat Disadvantages: not many veggie options
I love Malmaison's brasseries. The boutique hotel chain's eateries have a really fantastic buzz about them. I think the atmosphere that they have managed to achieve is mainly due to their amazing ability to hire incredibly nice people. I work and live in Glasgow and often eat there, it has a really warm and authentic brasserie feel about it and it's by far my favourite that I've tried. I've also eaten in the Leeds and Manchester hotels each of which ... ...somehow manage to keep the same extremely comfortable and laid back culture. I haven't tried Edinburgh or Newcastle yet but I'm certain that they wouldn't dissapoint
Their menus are fab - it's very simple food but just prepared so well. Signature dishes include, grilled asparagus with hollandaise sauce (my favourite), salmon fishcakes & creme brulee. They have seasonal menus which are always fresh and innovative. I would say the only down side is ...

I recently visited Malmaison in Leith for the second time. It really is a lovely place to stay. There are 60 rooms, on four floors, some poistioned in the building's towers and turrets, which are a bit isolated if travelling alone. The decor is modern chic, checked and striped walls, huge sofas, etc. The mini bar is stocked full of goodies chocolate bars, jelly beans, tortillas, and a good range of alcoholic and soft drinks at reasonable prices. ...

Advantages: Fantastic rooms. Lots of restaurant options nearby. Great staff. Disadvantages: Need to book in advance
I have now stayed at 3 of the Malmaison hotels (Oxford, Edinburgh and Manchester) - and each have been so very spectacular. The staff are always so very friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much of an effort.
The rooms are quite modern and spacious. The beds are so very comfortable. The bathrooms are always really nice as well.
The thing I like most about the Malmaison hotels is that they all offer a consistently high standard, whilst maintaining an individualistic touch - often in line with the area or features of the buildings.
Their bars are always very welcoming - even if travelling by oneself. Not at all like other typical hotel bars. I don't normally ever drink in the hotel bars - but nearly always do at the Malmaison.
I also don't typically eat at the hotel restaurant or order room service - but I definitely do ...
Advantages: Can't think of any Disadvantages: Service, Price, Food, Atmosphere,
time to complain or ask for a compensation, all I did was to fill in the Feedback questionnaire, knowing that somebody will probably throw it away, rather than act on it. (So far I have not had any communication from Hilton regarding my bad experience in one of their hotels)
I was glad to get away from this hotel and got my confirmation that I was not expecting too much from a 4 Star hotel when I stayed at the EdinburghMalmaison for less money the following night. Those 2 hotel standards are not comparible!!!
I would like to warn any of you not to book a stay in the Hilton Hydro as the chances for a huge disappointment are too big and the price to pay for that experience is far too high. ...
