I stayed in Malmaison London a few months ago for a work conference. I had experience with other Malmaison branches across the country so was really looking forward to my stay. The hotel is based in Charterhouse Square next to Smithfields market and has a great location safely tucked away from the main street. It's a nice little part of London (Smiths of Smithfield, Fabric just down the road) with easy access to the centre of town or Islington by a short cab or tube ride. This makes it great if you don't want to deal with hustle and bustle of Picadilly or the West End but still need a central location.
When I arrived as usual the staff were helpful and friendly - you get the impression they genuinely enjoy their jobs and want to provide a great service. I had a room on the second floor which was spotless and well presented. There was a CD playing when I arrived which was a nice touch. All the mod cons were there, TV,CD , DSL, Tea and Coffee, iron, safe, power shower, as well as a well stocked minibar and encouragement to take the (lovely) toiloetries.
We had a few drinks in the champagne bar before dinner which is in the same style as the other Malmaison hotel bars but in my opinion not as good , it's just kind of there by the lift/restaurant/stairs and is quite small with limited seats. I know this is a problem with older London properties but is realy the only negative I could find.
In the morning we had breakfast which was fantastic and well cooked - I had smoked salmon with scrambled egg that was very fresh and cooked to perfection.
We had an all day meeting in their meeting room which was light and bright and had all the equipment we would need. They served a buffet lunch which again was very tasty and were always on hand if we needed anything eg. and extension cable.
Overall I would stay here again for business or pleasure , although I would say the other Malmaison hotels I have been to are less business orientated which is worth considering if you are planning a weekend away for example.

I work near there, it is a nice area. Very buzzy. If you want a recommendation for a restaurant or other nice bars when you are next there send me a message in my guest book. Another really cool place to stay is the Zetter which is very near there. Have you heard of it?

A good comparison for business users - although very brief. This is the sort of details that could just bump you up to exceptional when done well (not many people think of business when writing about hotels). Try reading about some on the site to get a better idea of what makes the top ratings. Good to see you are covering the categories on Malmaison though @:-)
