I have visited the bar in Manchester Malmaison on several occasions because I love the contemporary but 1920's inspired decor and the cosy atmosphere. But over and above that the cocktail list is the best I've seen anywhere ,from Cosmopolitans to Tom Collins and everything in between , each one made from scratch with fresh juices and garnishings, fabulous. It doesn't come cheap though with the classic cocktails starting at around £8 and a glass of champagne (the housechampagne is veuve cliqot) about the same. Great for a few pre dinner drinks to get you in the mood for a lovely night out.
Because of this when I found out I would be staying at Malmaison Manchester for work I was very happy , but wondered if the rest of the hotel would live up to expectations. The room rate was £125 per night for a standard double room. Check in was smooth and the staff were very friendly and plentiful. I was given a room on the top floor which was small but perfectly formed. Very comtemporary and sleek without being too stark, and actually the size of the room made it quite cosy. All mod cons included , CD , TV, DSL, Power shower, Iron, tea and coffee, safe and laundry service. I happened to be staying during a rare heatwave and the air conditioning was the best I've come across - very controlable to get the right temperature. The minibar is well stocked with chocolate and wine, coke and juices etc. but has the obligatory high price tag as well. The best part was the little touches that really make Malmaison stand out for me , the card encouraging you to take the toiletries and the delivery of fresh milk for your tea in the morning, and the CD playing when you arrive back to your room.
I had breakfast every day which was excellent with a choice of cooked (traditional english, eggs benedict, smoked salmon) or continental (gorgeous fresh fruit and juices plus big choice of breads and cereals). We also had dinner there one night which was superb , in fact we only just got in because people travel from far to come to eat there.
All in all a wonderful stay and I would highly reccomend this hotel, in fact Malmaison is quickly becoming my new favourite thing!

This brings me back...I used to work here years ago! Not so glamorous behind the scenes but I did get to meet David and Victoria Beckham and loads of other celebs so not all bad I guess!
