Malmaison is a chain of hotels (similar to the 'Hyatt' or 'Hilton' etc) except that this one in Manchester is quite famous!
Having often read of famous folk staying there (don't you read 'Heat' Mag?!?!?!) the likes of Sugababes, Britney, etc, I thought I'd book a small group in for New Year's Eve (and then more recently just the two of us!)
Firstly the boring stuff:
Located in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham & London, they seem to have all the major cities covered.
This particular review is of the Manchester one located in the middle of the city centre (Piccadilly)it's a stone's throw from all amenities (including the train station, which is 2 mins walk and Canal St which is 4 mins walk!)
It's an odd frontage and on first sight, looks more like a modern art gallery or television studio. See the interior though...ooooh!
Anyways, the reception is very contemporary and as you enter you are immediately greeted by three members of staff behind a huge reception desk. To the right are the lifts leading to the accomodation and to the left is dining area, bar and access to gymtonic or the petit spa.
The rooms are not overly spacious but extremely slick, chic and stylish. Both times I have stayed there, the rooms were almost identicial so I'm thinking perhaps they're all that way!!! The bathroom was marble with a power shower, and 'floating sink' unit. There's a CD player, CD libraries, cable TV, two line phones, data ports, Internet access, personal bar filled with a HUGE array of drinks and snacks (watch the price though!) The lighting is subtle too (I hate bright overhead lighting!)
No view as such (come on it IS Manchester City Centre!) but no noise really. Plenty of hanging space and hair drier and irons are awaiting your useage!!
Costs are approx £99 per night (for the room) at weekends up to £165 per night for a suite (midweek). We paid £110 New Years Eve and £129 recently (both over weekends rather than weekdays) but I know that if you shop around on the web, you can get slightly cheaper deals and discounts rather than booking it directly with Malmaison.
The great benefit of Malmaison is that the breakfasts are FAB (extra £12 ish) (per person!) with a vast array of different offerings (fruit, pastries, cereal, english cooked, veggie cooked, etc)and it's so very close to Canal St (stumbling distance really!) and a really high quality alternative to some of the 'less desirable' accomodation around Canal St!!!! (And I've stayed in some dodgy ones in my time! The 'New Union' ARRGGHHHH!) easy for fab 'clubbing' weekend!
Oh, there's also a cash machine within walking distance too - (handy!)
The only downside is the lack of on-site parking but that's only to be expected considering where it is situated! There's a handy NCP a few yards down the road and the Malmaison will swipe you praking ticket before you leave which gives you a reduction on the cost of the overnight parking.
SO overall impression is, stylish, convenient and comfy!
(P.S Bar area is quite small but very friendly staff!)
Advantages: Excellent night time security, & great appearance. Very conveniently located. Disadvantages: Staff werent as friendly as expected - and made you feel like you were troubling them!
I stayed at the hotel in December 2000, and overall, had a very pleasant stay. It's a very nice looking, modern hotel, which is just being extended to include an ajoining car park. It's very contemporary in its style, and obviously, as you might of guessed from the name, also has a french style. I had a slight problem with checking in, as they had messed up my reservation, & treated me like it was my fault. I didnt like the tone there. I know this ... ...did influence my stay. It has an excellent bar, & you might even see one or two celebs while your there, as it is widely used by celebrities. Past guests include Britney Spears, Alice Cooper, Westlife, Status Quo, plus loads more. Victoria & David Beckham were in the bar when I stayed there, as Victorias family were staying in the hotel. The room service is pretty bad. They dont have a written menu, instead you have to ring to see what they have, ...

Advantages: great looking hotel with lots of little extras Disadvantages: no carpark - had to pay £30 for 2 nights stay
...to Manchester, staying in the Malmaison hotel in Piccadilly, Manchester city centre. A good location for the shops and nightlife.
It is a stunning looking hotel both externally and internally. Extremely modern and eye-catching. Inside the décor is quite gothic in taste, but in a sexy, french style. Black marble, red and purple fabrics and features.
The double standard room we stayed in was large and the bed was even bigger! It had all of the usual ... ...with several bottles of Malmaison own wine, chocolate and jelly beans! A smart little CD player was a great extra too.
The bar had great snack food and seductive cocktails and friendly staff. We didn’t experience the in-house restaurant but in general the staff and services were all to a high standard and all had a little bit extra that was really noticeable and made our stay more special. ...

Advantages: central location, reasonable price Disadvantages: can't think of one
I have stayed at the Malmaison Manchester on several occasions and I really like it.
The hotel is fairly new. I think about 3 or 4 years old only. It is located very close to the train station- Manchester Picadilly and very close to town centre. Everything is on your door step.
People in the reception are really friendly and helpful.
There is CD player in your room and there is a very nice brassarie on the ground floor of the hotel where the cool ... ...with all the facilities and a spa for you to unwind.
THe style of the hotel is modern with bold colour with a slight hint of french touch. THe best thing though is the price , you do not have to break the bank to stay there. Two person in a double for around £75 to £90, depending on the season.
Now, that's what I called value for money!! ...

Advantages: Modern, funky, good value Disadvantages: Small rooms
I have visited the bar in ManchesterMalmaison on several occasions because I love the contemporary but 1920's inspired decor and the cosy atmosphere. But over and above that the cocktail list is the best I've seen anywhere ,from Cosmopolitans to Tom Collins and everything in between , each one made from scratch with fresh juices and garnishings, fabulous. It doesn't come cheap though with the classic cocktails starting at around £8 and a glass of champagne (the house champagne is veuve cliqot) about the same. Great for a few pre dinner drinks to get you in the mood for a lovely night out.
Because of this when I found out I would be staying at MalmaisonManchester for work I was very happy , but wondered if the rest of the hotel would live up to expectations. The room rate was £125 per night for a standard double room. Check in was ...
Advantages: Fantastic rooms. Lots of restaurant options nearby. Great staff. Disadvantages: Need to book in advance
I have now stayed at 3 of the Malmaison hotels (Oxford, Edinburgh and Manchester) - and each have been so very spectacular. The staff are always so very friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much of an effort.
The rooms are quite modern and spacious. The beds are so very comfortable. The bathrooms are always really nice as well.
The thing I like most about the Malmaison hotels is that they all offer a consistently high standard, whilst maintaining an individualistic touch - often in line with the area or features of the buildings.
Their bars are always very welcoming - even if travelling by oneself. Not at all like other typical hotel bars. I don't normally ever drink in the hotel bars - but nearly always do at the Malmaison.
I also don't typically eat at the hotel restaurant or order room service - but I definitely do ...
Advantages: Very clean and comfortable Disadvantages: Breakfast was disappointing
We went to London for a long weekend to visit a film festival at Leicester Square. I have stayed in other Malmaison?s before and found them to be very comfortable. There were some good rates for the bank holiday weekend so we decided to try the one in London. They have 12 hotels situated around the country including properties in Belfast, Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham.
Malmaison London is situated in Charterhouse Square in the centre of London. The nearest tube station is Barbican and is within walking distance of St Paul?s, the River Thames and Oxford street. In order to get to Leicester square you have to change tube lines, but on several days we walked which only took about 20 minutes.
