"Mammas" restaurants in Edinburgh, there are two, the original and the one I write about is located in the Grassmarket area of the town, the other is based in the Canonmills area, Mammas in the Grassmarket located in a busy area surrounded by pubs and restaurants in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle and the High Street.
Well if you like Pizza first let me say that you have not tasted Pizza like this, forget about Italian Pizza, Pizza Hut, Domino's ... ...A bit of History, two Canadian Actors Angus and Phil, not getting work back home, obtain an old Italian Recipe for a Tomato Sauce Base for Pizza. They Land at Heathrow and set about searching throughout the Land (I am being serious) they end up in Edinburgh and buy the present Mammas and the Shop next door when it comes available and knock the walls in!

Mammas is a great experience. There are plenty of Pizza restaurants in Edinburgh, some of which have better locations (eg the Pizza Express over the river in Stockbridge) but for pure experience you'd struggle to beat Mamma's. On to a winner from the start for its location in the Grassmarket, there is a truly original vibe to the place. I admit that I have had better pizzas in my time - even with the spicey tomato sauce the pizzas could be accused ... ...more than compensated for by the sheer array of potential toppings. My personal favourite as an ex-pat Scot has to be the Haggis, but you can also have cactus, and any number of other weird and wonderful combinations. It can get a bit loud but that's just part of the fun. Great choice of drinks too. ...

...and pushing the last vestiges of doubt to one side, we went in. I need not of worried for I found the whole dining experience to be most enjoyable.

I've just had one of those special days that seem to come round regularly once a year and my two young daughters (with a little help from their daddy!) decided to buy me the Mamma Mia movie soundtrack CD. I secretly suspect that they really wanted it for more
I love Malmaison's brasseries. The boutique hotel chain's eateries have a really fantastic buzz about them. I think the atmosphere that they have managed to achieve is mainly due to their amazing ability to hire incredibly nice people.
