Whenever I go on Holiday I always like to think that the Holiday has started as soon as I turn the key in my front door, so it is always important that the journey to the Airport and onto my destination goes smoothly.
I recently spent seven days in Tunisia with a friend. It was a last minute booking and one thing that we needed to arrange at short notice was how to get to the Airport. We were flying from Manchester Airport which may only be 45 miles from our hometown of Sheffield, but without a Car it is not an easy journey.
There is a Train that runs between Sheffield and the Airport but since we had a 6am flight this was not an option as the Trains stop running before Midnight and do not start up again until 5am. We looked at the cost of a Taxi but £75 split between just two of us seemed a little steep, and so it seemed that the only option was to take the Car.
The Internet seemed like the logical place to start our search and we quickly found a selection of Websites which gave comparative prices for Airport Parking, after a short while we settled for a company called Ringway.
THE DECISION PROCESS
The difference in price between the various different companies offering Airport Parking did vary a lot more than I expected. We paid £38.25 for seven nights Parking which was at the lower end of the scale, with the most expensive being £53.55.
The distance from the Airport itself was obviously important but not critical since we were aware that we would be run into the Airport on a Courtesy Bus, so the frequency of the Buses was one of the things that we looked at. According to their Website Ringway run Courtesy Buses every 15 minutes and the journey time is approximately twenty minutes. Their buses operate 24 hours a day.
The final factor was the location and the how easy the place looked to find. After studying the directions to our final three choices Ringway won in this particular category since it was right beside the Dual Carriageway that we would be approaching on.
We paid Online by Switch for which there was no processing fee, but they also accept all major credit cards without a fee. As soon as the transaction was processed we received a confirmation email which we printed out. This had our unique booking reference on it plus directions to the Car Park.

THE EXPERIENCE
We found that the Car Park was very easy to find and when we arrived we were pleased to note that it was completely fenced in with plenty of CCTV cameras scattered around. All new arrivals follow the signs to the Reception which is well signposted but it is a rather slow journey across Gravel and there are a fair few Pot Holes to manoeuvre around, which I suppose will fill up with rainwater in bad weather, but since the weather was fine during our stay this was not a problem. The check in procedure was quick and easy with the minimum of fuss and only took a couple of minutes.
There was a Courtesy Bus already waiting for us when we had checked in but we did have to carry our own bags onto the Bus and it was quite full. I understand however that if you are Disabled or Elderly they will load your bags onto the Courtesy Bus for you, but this usually has to be by prior arrangement.
The Reception itself is rather basic in appearance and resembles a large Porta-cabin but there are Toilets here, including ones with Disabled facilities and Baby Changing facilities so I suppose that it serves its purpose.
On our return journey however this is where things went rather pear-shaped. On clearing Customs you are told to ring Airparks who will then send a Bus to you. After 20 minutes of trying to phone and constantly getting the engaged tone I eventually got through and we were told to turn left out of the main Airport entrance and wait at Bus Stop number 3 and that a Bus was on its way.
We had not cleared Customs particularly quickly so by the time that we arrived at the Bus Stop there was around a dozen people or so already waiting there. From overhearing the conversations from the front of the queue it became apparent that some of these people had been waiting around 15 minutes so we stood and waited patiently in the knowledge that a Bus would be along any minute now. More and more people arrived and still we waited. By now 30 minutes had passed and several people in the queue were trying to ring the office again, but to avail as all they got was an engaged tone, and so we waited and we waited......
I checked the call log on my phone and noted that it was now 50 minutes since I had made my call and still there was sign of a Courtesy Bus. A further 15 minutes passed and eventually a Bus turned up to cheers from the queue, which now stretched as far as the main Airport entrance.
As we began to board the Bus it quickly filled up and since the Luggage Racks were only small the only place to leave the Luggage became the aisle. The queue shortened and the Bus became fuller and fuller, it soon became obvious that the Driver had no intentions of moving until the entire queue was on his Bus. When we finally set off I counted 31 people standing in the aisles (all with Luggage), needless the say the situation was a sham.
Unfortunately when we arrived back at the Airpark things did not improve and although we were near to the front of the queue and got our Car Keys fairly quickly when we set off to row 7 as instructed we found that our Car was completely blocked in by other Cars and so we went back off to Reception to complain. In the end it was a further hour before all of the Cars surrounding ours and others had been moved and we drove away.
So to conclude we had a fairly smooth outward experience but unfortunately our experience on the return leg of the journey which was a mid afternoon landing has led me to conclude that I can not recommend this place to others and unfortunately the end of our Holiday was ruined by Ringways Airpark.
Advantages: Secure Parking Disadvantages: None that I could find
...We have flown from Manchester a few times now so this is no problem, however it is about an hour and a quarter drive from our home in Derbyshire. With taking the car we then need to find somewhere to park for the duration of the holiday so we tend to use the BCP Airport Parking, car park name of Airparks Handforth Dean. We booked our parking through the Travel Agent, however, I have in the past booked direct on-line, which saves about 50p. When booking ... ...the Airparks Handford Dean, for Manchester Airport.

Advantages: Inexpensive, courteous, polite service Disadvantages: Not so easy to find, waiting around for buses to pick you up can be a pain
...recently flew to Dublin from Manchester airport. Thanks to engineering works on the line at some point between here (Sheffield) and Manchester, the railway option wasn't open to me for my weekend away.
Firstly this posed two problems: one) I'd have to drive because my love affair with coach services ended some three years ago when, as a student, a National Express (spit, curse, spit) driver completely missed my stop and proceeded to blame me for ... ...working out my route to Manchester airport, before deciding that an investigation into this whole airport parking malarky would be needed. I'd never driven to an airport before (the whole idea of flying, arriving home tired and having to drive never appealed to me), but with no other apparent options, I was venturing onto new ground.
My first stop was the trusty Internet, and a search on Google returned a wealth of informative sites all baying for ...

Advantages: None! Disadvantages: This is NOT Meet and Greet
...Gold 'Meet and Greet' at Manchester Airport. This is Not a Meet and greet service!!!!
We booked online for the 'Meet and Greet' service for our flight from Manchester in August. Having used many a meet and greet provider before at various UK airports I have always loved the convenience of just pulling up to departures and unloading the Kids and the bags whilst the car is being checked over by the Driver handing over the keys and being able to walk ... ...waiting just outside of arrivals for us to load up and drive off. 'Airparks Gold - Meet and Greet' does not provide this service.
On arrival (very early morning) at departures I unloaded the luggage whilst my wife unloaded our three young children (aged 5, 3 & 1). After 10 minutes of waiting no driver appeared. It was only when looking at the smallprint on the 'Meet and Greet' contract did we notice that we had to unload the car at departures and ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Will crash your car and not accept liability
...received when we arrived at Manchester Airport on the 9th August only to wait 30 minutes for the driver to come and collect the vehicle (which meant that we almost missed our flight) and to be told by your customer services operative that you were over booked and we just have to wait, however, my letter is now of a more serious nature which requires immediate attention.
On returning from holiday on the 16th August at 1.00am, I called the number ... ...to Solihull, I contacted the Manchester Depot and spoke to the Duty Manager. I explained the entire situation to him and he assured me that he would file a full report for their Head Office. This is shocking service and I would not recommend that you risk using airparks! ...

Advantages: situation of car park adjacent to terminals Disadvantages: think I have said enough in my review.
We had arrived at the airport around 4.45 am the 13th july 2009 and to give credit
the driver was waiting for us.
We went over the usual details but before he left I made sure we went around the car so any damage could be noted on handover, being no damage to the car he handed me the card with the telephone number on and gave me instructions for our return.
On returning we went to level 12 terminal 1 to meet the driver, there was also another ... ...other families car was parked next to ours in adjoining car bays but no driver around.
About five minutes later the driver came through with our keys but said he had to go and get our tickets to get out the car park.
This gave us time to get the luggage in the boot and get in the car.
On switching on the ignition the petrol gauge needle barely moved, the low fuel light was flashing, this only happens when the initial static low fuel level light ...

Advantages: Safe, secure. Disadvantages: Hang on. Let me think....
I had a couple of weeks off recently and managed to get an excellent late deal to Mallorca.
We were going to fly from Birmingham airport, somewhere that I`d never flown from before but had decided that it might be a little bit easier than Manchester which I usual preferred.
We had to decide whether to leave our car at home and travel down by a local minibus company or to drive there and park the car at one of the many car-parks available around the airport . As we usually run late wherever we go, we decided to use our vehicle to get there. So began the hunt for a suitable secure car park!
I`ve used on- airport car parking before and paid through the nose for it. I`d also used of f-airport car parking, namely BCP at Manchester and was not duly impressed by them for a variety of reasons that I`ll not go into to here ...
Advantages: close to airport Disadvantages: very very very slow service
securapark manchester- we needed nearby parking for our recent trip abroad, after a little research securapark looked a good bet £38 for a weeks secure parking 10 miutes from manchesterairport, the blurb offers a quick turnaround "chauffer" driven service there eneded the sales pitch. We arrived at 3.45 am giving 2.5 hours before our flight, the place is easy to find, you go up a spiral car park and are met by miserable no one who books you in you are then in a line of cars in our case at least thirty, you then wait for the very few staff to take three cars back and forth with no apparant rush or plan the cars are parked willy nilly and you wait and wait eventually you are taken to the airport and dropped in the bus park doesnt matter where you are going and even if they have made you late. on return there is more fun you ring ...
