We had arrived at the airport around 4.45 am the 13th july 2009 and to give credit the driver was waiting for us. We went over the usual details but before he left I made sure we went around the car so any damage could be noted on handover, being no damage to the car he handed me the card with the telephone number on and gave me instructions for our return. On returning we went to level 12 terminal 1 to meet the driver, there was also another family there. I noticed our car parked up and the other families car was parked next to ours in adjoining car bays but no driver around. About five minutes later the driver came through with our keys but said he had to go and get our tickets to get out the car park. This gave us time to get the luggage in the boot and get in the car. On switching on the ignition the petrol gauge needle barely moved, the low fuel light was flashing, this only happens when the initial static low fuel level light has been on for quite some miles. This was a bit of a shock to me because when I handed the car over there was around a quarter tank of fuel in the tank, around 12 and a half litres, I get around 35 miles to the gallon, and knowing that we had a fair journey back to where we live I did not want the hassle of having to get to a petrol station after a long flight, so I knew that I had enough fuel for any distance they had to cover in parking the car and returning it to me and also our journey home. I pointed this out to the driver when he handed me the carpark ticket, to be fair he was quite sympathetic, but said that all the car would have done was around 22 miles, 11 miles to carrington and 11 miles back. He said that he could only suggest that if we feel something has gone wrong then we need to notify BCP. In my normal driving I would never allow the fuel to get that low, the needle was virtually on the last mark, I had visions of the car stalling on the way to getting fuel. Considering what I feel in my opinion I had left in the fuel tank and all the car had supposedly done on the morning of our arrival, 11 miles, there is no way the gauge should have been where it was. I have contacted BCP who are still looking into it almost a week later. In my opinion I would not use this service again.
