An Excellent, Thought-Provoking Visit For All the Family

Advantages: Informative in an engaging way
Disadvantages: None

I remember going to the Imperial War Museum in London when I was a child and having a great time, so when I discovered there was one here in the North, I decided to pay a visit. - The Imperial War Museum North is housed in an obscure, but interesting, looking building and is basically made up of two floors: - The ground floor is the entrance and includes the gift shop, a dining room (where you can eat your packed lunch, if you've brought one), ...
...Air Shard (which is a 29 metre high viewing platform, from which you can see most of Manchester). - The second floor is where the exhibition rooms are. There are two; the Main Exhibition Space which contains the permanent display of war artefacts and the Special Exhibitions gallery which contains the temporary exhibitions. When I visited the temporary exhibition was a display of female war artists' work, which was well worth the visit alone. - ...

Didsbury cinema

Advantages: Good range of amenities around it and free parking
Disadvantages: Sometimes can get very busy

I have always used the Cineworld in Didsbury as this is my local cinema but, more recently myself and my husband have signed up for an Unlimited card which for £11.99 a month means we can see as many films as we like. So after taking it out we have been going to the cinema a lot more and suddenly this place is starting to become very familiar to us! So with this in mind I thought I would share my views on this cinema in particular - the Cineworld ...
...I like this branch of Cineworld as it is close to me and also has a lot of amenities around it. There is a selection of restaurants which means it can be a nice evening out and you can walk straight out of the restaurant into the cinema! Also compared to some cinemas I've been in they are pretty clean - there is the usual mess of popcorn but generally staff try to keep on top of it and it's always clean when you first enter the screen. I would ...

Body worlds...stripped bare...

Advantages: Starts well, some was scientific...the literature was interesting!
Disadvantages: Mostly non scientific, patronising and boring...without the arrogance of von Hagens

...took us to see the Body Worlds 4 exhibition at Manchester Science Museum. I deliberately asked for a new category for this because although it was at the museum it's a short term exhibit and the only real part of the museum we visited. The basic idea is that it is a display of dead bodies which is meant to educate the general public. Cost: £10 adult ....... £8 student/elderly ........ £7 child - which is 16 and under Dates: 22nd Feb - 29th June ...
...of preserved human bodies and body parts that he prepares using a technique called plastination which he invented himself in the July 1977. The Body Worlds exhibition was first shown in Tokyo in 1995 and has since been shown all over Europe and America, with the latest show of Body Worlds 4 being at Manchester Science Museum. The original Body Worlds exhibition contained 25 full body plastinates showing certain parts of the human body in their original ...

Join The Black Pudding Club

Advantages: bargaing galore, stalls a plenty, chip as chips
Disadvantages: hard to move when busy

...There aren't many attractions in Bury but Bury Market is apparently World Famous so was surprised to find it wasn't already on Ciao. Last year 700 coach trips visited Bury Market and many coach rips offer excursions to the market. I once heard of a hotel in Blackpool offering an Mystery Tour which actually ended up Bury, I never believed it until my in laws went for a long weekend in Blackpool last year, decided to take the Mystery tour and ended ...
...Where Is It Bury Market is slap bang in the middle of Bury town centre. There are excellent motorway links from the M62 and M66. As it lies right next to the town's bus station and Metrolink system it's very easily accessible from all parts of Manchester and most places in Lancashire. The Market is also a popular excursion for coach parties and the coach drop off point is outside the tourist information centre and art gallery and then it's just ...

Brilliant day out for Dr Who fans

Advantages: Fun, in a good location (in free large museum)
Disadvantages: Have seen it all in a short time, cost may deter some.

...group of 5 children, all Dr Who fans, here for my daughters 8th birthday. They were all aged 4-10 and were accompanied by my husband and I, also Dr Who fans! The 4 year old was free, and for the 6 of us, it cost around £31 booked through ticketmaster. The exhibition is actually inside the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry on Liverpool Road. We were fast tracked through the queue which was already quite big at 10am. (I would arrive early as ...
...are good train and bus services to Manchester if travelling this way. By Train: Nearest railway station - Deansgate. By Tram: Nearest Metrolink (tram) station - GMex. The exhibition is open 10am-5pm and is on until November 2007. The exhibition itself was very good. You would really need to be a fan to get your moneysworth. Really, you could do it in 20 minutes, but if you walk around a few times and read all the info and watch the videos, you could ...
