Who turned out the lights?
Review of Holiday Inn Express Manchester East, Manchester by
xxfibeexx
Advantages: clean, good standard rooms
Disadvantages: Not central, fiddly lighting, and the staff were having a bad day, breakfast
...room at the Express by Holiday Inn.
Here's where my troubles began
Despite calling me Fiona on the phone and having me spell out my full name when they took my debit card details the e-mail confirmation bore a different initial. No problems I thought, I have driving lisence and anyway my card details can be checked.
I set off from home for the six hour journey and all went well until I was within spitting distance and then I got lost, very lost! ... ...as you would expect from Holiday Inn. I thought it was pricey for what we got, I paid £89 and to be fair it wasn't very different from a travel lodge or premier inn. Would I stay there again? Hmmm, I guess if there was no comparable but cheaper alternatives. A resounding OK is how I'd sum up the experience. ...

Cheap for a reason
Review of Hotel International, Manchester by
jpholroyd
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not very nice
...the tram passes by the hotel this is noisy. The bathroom had flaking paint on the ceiling and the shower head was mouldy. TV had channels 1-4 .
When we got into the hotel we found the bar was shut for an hour (11-12) and we were planning on having a nightcap, couldn't get room service because the phone didn't work.
Didn't make it to breakfast because of the poor sleep.
Don't park in NCP car park next to the hotel because it's expensive and the ...

Travel lodge - cheap cheerful.
Review of Travelodge Ashton Under Lyne, Manchester by
mrsparkinson
Advantages: Cheap, clean, good location, comfy bed
Disadvantages: none for me
We booked the Travelodge for a trip to Manchester, with a £19 per room booking. Myself and my sister arrived there in totally foul rainy weather and had never driven through Ashton under Lyne before and because of this we got a bit lost as it is on the edge of a retail park in a one way system so listen carefully to your sat nav! Anyway, there was a fairly big carpark, and we got a parking space really easily. We were given a room with a view on ... ...double bed, and a single pull out sofa bed, both of which were very clean and comfortable. There was also good tea & coffee making facilities of which we nearly drank them dry!
The hotel shared it's carpark with a pub which did good grub, so we went there for our tea. The lady on reception at the hotel kindly phoned us a taxi to take us to our night out. The hotel was quiet given that it was on a main road, and when we arrived back there at midnight-ish, ...

City Inn Manchester
Review of City Inn, Manchester by
blaaboy
Advantages: Location, service, food
Disadvantages: Small rooms
...to the centre of the city - Piccadilly Gardens. The staff have always been helpful through my stays. The decor is contemporary and the rooms are finished to a high standard. Every room comes equiped with an Apple desktop computer with free internet acess - a nice touch. Fixture and fitting are all of a high spec and clean throughout. My only grip perhaps is that all the rooms are quite small. The hotel bar is again contemporary in style, but is comfortable ...

Premier, not perfect
Review of Premier Travel Inn Manchester - City Centre (GMEX), Manchester by
hiker
Advantages: Location, customer service
Disadvantages: Electrical faults, noise
...- you know the ones: Premier Inn (a.k.a. Travelinn as was), Travelodge, Innkeeper's Lodge. These are the earthbound equivalents of budget airlines. No frills. But you do expect them to deliver on the basics.
Premier is probably my favourite of the three. Maybe that's because they've followed up their rebranding with a full-scale refurb of all their hotels. (Maybe it's because my most usual branch of the competition has particular limitations.)
... ...The GMEX Premier Inn is within walking distance. It's located on Lower Moseley Street, opposite the Midland Hotel which faces Manchester Central Station, and only about five minutes walk from Oxford Road station. This is clearly the 'conference centre' of Manchester. The area is littered with hotels (there's another Premier even closer to the station, and a Hilton across the road, and just about everything in between); during the day it bustles; ...
