Over priced average hotel
Review of Thistle Manchester, Manchester by
leannemichele18
Advantages: Great Location, friendly staff
Disadvantages: over priced.
...so I went for the Thistle as it was alot cheaper than other hotels with a pool, jacuzzi and sauna. I paid £79 for one night at the weekend. We arrived about 1.30pm and although it states check in is at 2 o'clock we thought we would try a bit earlier. The staff on reception were very friendly and checking in that bit early was not a problem. The reception is quite elegant looking with security on the door of an evening and a restaurant and bar, which ... ...Overall I dont think the Thistle is worth the money they charge especially as sometimes the rooms can be over £110! The rooms are very average in need of some refurbishment, if your only after a basic hotel in a great location and are willing to pay the money for it then the Thistle is for you.
If I was only looking for basic facilities as this hotel has, I personally would look to pay a bit less in another hotel. ...

"All I need is the air that I breathe...."
Review of Palace Hotel, Manchester by
sadoldbag
Advantages: Sumptous, elegant, grand, slick, great location.
Disadvantages: expensive, no additional facilities e.g. swimming pool, gym etc.
...spent a night at the Palace Hotel in Manchester, on business. It is a rather grand, distinctively impressive Victorian building right in the heart of the city, that was originally built as insurance offices, apparently, and still does slightly have the feeling as you arrive in the door of being a rather commercial venue. I actually walked past the entrance the first time, assuming that what I could see was a shopping mall or something - the entrance ... ...the nearest is the NCP Palace car park but at £15.50 a day it's not cheap - a better deal for Palace residents can be had at the one a 5 minute walk away which only costs £7.50 a day if they validate your ticket at reception.
It is an imposing building amd hard to miss (clever of me to walk past, actually!) and the entrance hall is cavernous and grand. The staff on reception are friendly and check-in was swift - this is a four star hotel and it ...

Noisy, Smelly, Tatty Hotel Stuck In The 1970's
Review of Britannia Country House Hotel, Manchester by
johnny040676
Advantages: Close To Manchester Airport
Disadvantages: Too Many To List, Needs A refurb, Needs A Good Clean, Noisy
BACKGROUND
*******************
Ahh the Britannia Country House Hotel, a couple of miles from Manchester airport, the perfect place to stay the night before jeting off on our honeymoon, thought my new wife and I in August 2006. We booked online and only paid £64 for a double room with champagne on arrival, and it looked so modern and the name country house just added to the picture in our heads what a perfect start to our honeymoon. How wrong can ... ...We arrived on a Saturday afternoon having got married on the Thursday and stayed a couple of nights at the hotel we had got married in, and as we parked on the large car park to the front and walked up to the front we noticed there was a wedding going on and they were having some photo's taken outside, the exterior looked very nice an fairly modern and the gardens were nice.
As we entered the building though everything changed, the decor inside ...

Not very footballers wives any more
Review of Copthorne Hotel Manchester, Manchester by
koshkha
Advantages: Convenient for Man U & Salford Quays
Disadvantages: Looking very dated
I used to live about 5 miles from this hotel and regularly visited the cinema next door which has sadly been closed. I considered it as a possible wedding night venue when I got married 8 years ago so at that time I would have rated it quite highly. We didn't stay there because there was a Man U home game that day and the place was full so I went back with a sense of expectations.
The location is within crawling distance of Old Trafford. In its ... ...believe but these days the tired decor and lack of gym mean the away teams are more likely to be out at the Worsely Marriott or another higher standard hotel. Firstly I should set the scene with some background info. I booked the room through Lastminute.com and got a great rate of about £69 for a Quayside room. It was a room only rate. Man U were obviously away that weekend as the price doubles on match weekends. This isn't a hotel to choose for ...

Malmaison - my favourite hotel bar!
Review of Malmaison Manchester, Manchester by
gene2006
Advantages: Modern, funky, good value
Disadvantages: Small rooms
...visited the bar in Manchester Malmaison on several occasions because I love the contemporary but 1920's inspired decor and the cosy atmosphere. But over and above that the cocktail list is the best I've seen anywhere ,from Cosmopolitans to Tom Collins and everything in between , each one made from scratch with fresh juices and garnishings, fabulous. It doesn't come cheap though with the classic cocktails starting at around £8 and a glass of champagne ... ...I would be staying at Malmaison Manchester for work I was very happy , but wondered if the rest of the hotel would live up to expectations. The room rate was £125 per night for a standard double room. Check in was smooth and the staff were very friendly and plentiful. I was given a room on the top floor which was small but perfectly formed. Very comtemporary and sleek without being too stark, and actually the size of the room made it quite cosy. ...
