Who turned out the lights?
Advantages: clean, good standard rooms Disadvantages: Not central, fiddly lighting, and the staff were having a bad day, breakfast
...room at the Express by Holiday Inn.
Here's where my troubles began
Despite calling me Fiona on the phone and having me spell out my full name when they took my debit card details the e-mail confirmation bore a different initial. No problems I thought, I have driving lisence and anyway my card details can be checked.
I set off from home for the six hour journey and all went well until I was within spitting distance and then I got lost, very lost! ... ...as you would expect from Holiday Inn. I thought it was pricey for what we got, I paid £89 and to be fair it wasn't very different from a travel lodge or premier inn. Would I stay there again? Hmmm, I guess if there was no comparable but cheaper alternatives. A resounding OK is how I'd sum up the experience. ...

Manchester Hotel
Advantages: Godd value Disadvantages: none
Holiday Inn Express Salford Quays is situated in a very nice location on the waterfront, my room looked out over the renovated canals and docklands which was good.
We were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who was very helpful in giving us local information and directions. All the staff were helpful and friendly ( even when we managed to lock ourselves out of our room!)
The room was modern and very clean with plenty of coffee, cups , towels ... ...nice dining room, and good length of hours on the Sunday morning in which to get it.
Location-wise, it's about 14 minutes on the Metrolink tram from Manchester Piccadilly station on the Eccles line, and from there about a 4-minute walk. Taxi from the city cost us £10 late on Saturday evening, as the Metrolink finishes at 12.30am.
Overall I would say it was good value for money and would definatley stay again. ...

Advantages: good price, great location Disadvantages: no window
****Sachas hotel- Manchester****
I booked this hotel last minute as i had a job interview in Manchester and needed somewhere quite cheap ,that was also near the centre.
**Location/Getting there**
This hotel is located in Tibb street which is a 2 minute walk from Piccadily Gardens or 10 minutes away from Chorlton street bus station. The Train station is a little bit further away say maybe a twenty minute walk but i don't think that this is that ... ...and this goes to quite a few places. You could also get a taxi to the hotel but i am not sure what parking is like if you were to take your own car.
**Reception/staff**
Since i had never been to Manchester before i phoned and asked the staff for directions -they were very nice and helped me out. When i got there i think i got the same women(was a few days later).Staff member was lovely ,you felt like she actually liked her job/was being genuine.Checking ...

The Midland Hotel, Manchester
Advantages: Recently refitted Disadvantages: They forgot the health club!
Recently stayed in The Midland for one night, and was pleasantly surprised by the recent refurbishment it's undergone. Having not been to this hotel for a couple of years, the changes have really breathed some life back into what had been a crumbling relic.
The room was very nice, a good size, and well fitted in terms of what was available and space, as was the bathroom. One complaint I would have was that the mini-bar automatically charges you ... ...didn't dine in either of the two hotel restaurants - The French and The Colony - but they both looked ok, and the buffet breakfast, served in The Colony, was the best I've had at any hotel for a good few years. A good selection of cereals and fruit as well as a selection of standard hot items, which were hot and weren't greasy - which seems quite an achievement in hotels at the moment. The bar areas, while not cheap, were both cosy enough to sit ...

Our Days in Manchester
Advantages: Clean, comfortable, good food, handy for the hospital Disadvantages: We had one or two problems - see review
...searching he finally found The Days Hotel at the end of Sackville Street nearest to the Mancunian Way and thus nearest to the Manchester Royal Infirmary.
*** The Booking ***
We decided to book a Work Zone Room which was a bit larger than the standard room and, of course, a bit more expensive. Dave wanted to have that little bit extra luxury so that it would be a stress free haven when we returned from hospital visiting.
Dave did the actual booking ... ...address of the hotel is
Days Hotel, Weston Building, Sackville St, Manchester, Greater Manchester, M1 3BB
It is half a kilometer from Manchester Piccadilly Railway Station and 10 kilometers from Manchester Airport. It took us about ten minutes to walk into the centre of Manchester from the hotel.
It is about 20 minutes walk from Manchester Royal Infirmary!
Directions on how to find the hotel are on the active hotels website www.activehotels.com/servlet/xmlbrochure/index.do?hotelid=217168&trkref=KWI&subid=G.1
