A week ago on the 9th March , my husband and I set off for a holiday to Tenerife. The pick up was exactly on time, we had in fact three hours until the plane departed which was plenty of time.
We got in the queue for Air 2000, there were several queues forming and we just stood waiting until it was our turn. What I was concerned about was the fact that on the screens it just said Air 2000, not the flight and destination numbers. I was scared that our luggage would not get on the right flight.
Anyway there were only about six couples and families before us but the service was so slow it was unbelievable. We wondered why, as normally with
being so far up the queue it only takes around 30 mins. We must have waited over an hour before it was our turn.
Apparently people were being asked if they had any "Meats or Dairy Products in their luggage." Of course the British public are daft enough to take their own Bacon and one woman had about four cartons of milk. They were confiscated because of the Foot and Mouth thing going on.
It had been on the news and in the papers beforehand so why are these people so silly. They were the hold ups to the system.
When it was our turn , we never got asked about the food but i told the assistant we never bring our own food. We asked if this is the only reason why the queue wasn't moving and she said no , their computers had been updated and had only had 15 minutes training. She was very nice and I expalined it sounded just like where i work.
We got our tickets out and she said there wasn't any pre booked seats reserved for us nor was my husbands bike booked in. We were disappointed and blamed Lunn Poly again , I'd already had an argument with them about my rip off insurance, (see my op).
Anyway to compensate she gave us two seats with extra legroom.
So off we popped to check the bike in, you have to take it to another section , it has to go in the hold. I got the boarding cards out and noticed the surname on them wasn't ours. We had to go back to the lady who had checked us in and explained we wasn't called "Nelson", our name is "Metcalfe".
"OH my God" she said , I don't know how to sort this out i will have to get my supervisor.
We waited 10 minutes and no-one came. In the end she said I will look for your proper name and low and behold it was there with our reserved seats and bike booked in. The only thing was we had to give up the extra leg room as our seats had already been allocated.
Time went on and we had only 1 hour left to get something to eat and drink before boarding the plane. I must admit it was quite stressful, I think airports are stressful places, i only feel relaxed when i've got on the plane.
Before boarding the plane we had to walk through disinfectant pads, which I didn't even know that I had done it. Apparently it was a carpet with disinfectant soaked in, you wouldn't even know it was there. There was also a security man looking out for carrier bags with meat and dairy products in, he actually pulled a few people up who had secretly got through the check in without declaring the items.
If there was any evidence of people carrying them on the plane , it would hold up all the plane until the things were confiscated. Some people really are stupid, or tight that they can't buy the goods there. I overheard someone saying that they were panicking because they thought the prices of food would go up in Tenerife. This wasn't really the case even though things are more in line with Britain now , the food isn't as cheap abroad as it used to be anyway.
Another tip is if going to Tenerife, on the return journey there are now signs saying no matches or lighters are to be stored in your hand luggage or your suitcase.
This opinion isn't really concerntrating on the airport facellities i know, but just the reality of the check in procedure at the time of this awful Foot and Mouth thing. I hope anybody going at this time will find this op useful. prepare to set off earlier than normal as you will have to wait.

A nice review, I'm amazed people take things like bacon with them. As for taking milk, that's absurd.

I did fly from Manchester to Vienna last week, and there was absolutely no problem at all with the check-in procedure. So this might be a question of which airline you use rather than the airport. Take care, Michael.
