Manchester Airport is a rapidly growing enterprise. Now with three terminals, new runways, a central location and airlines queueing up to get routes, it should only get better.
My Most Recent Experience.....
Starts as we approach the Airport. We suddenly realise we don't know which terminal to go to. A sign appears : Terminal One is domestic flights...ok.....therefore, it must be 2 or 3. No further signs, so we take a chance on Three. I quickly leg it out to the terminal, spot a JMC service desk, run back to the car shouting 'let's go guys!!'. We all unpack, and the fathers speed off to Terminal 3 parking. We get loaded up and run inside. Hmmm, no JMC check in desk. Uh-oh, bad feeling increasing. Run over to a worker: 'Is this the JMC terminal?'. 'Well, I don't know. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't.'. Great. Realsies this is the wrong terminal for sure. But we are saved. Manchester has an express walkway through to terminal 2. It takes 10 minutes. Crisis averted, we check in in the nick of time. Now we can see what is here.
The Buildings
Manchester Airport is a tightly-knit group of terminals, hangars, hotels, transport facilities, and petrol stations. Everything, as we found, is in easy reach. In terminals 2 and 3, check in areas are large, pleasantly warm, and efficient. As I strolled down into Terminal Two, there is a lot to do. High-street shops like W.H.Smith, Boots and Tie Rack are here. There is a reasonably priced and nice cafe. Toilet facilities are good, service is friendly - its great. Passport control was not a problem, and the Duty Free shop was extensive - everything you would expect. Even the seats in the departure lounges were comfortable. And just when you couldn't believe it could be better - oh yes, the PA system was perfect too. As a matter of fact - everything was too easy. There were TV screens everywhere telling you what to do and when to do it, signposts, people to ask, it was all so easy. All the shops make it easy to pass the time too, or you can always watch the planes!
Access
Access by air is pretty good. Hahahaha. There are lots of signs from all directions from the road, and there is a train station with links to both main lines. There is also good access by bus. Transport within the Airport is good, with buses and walkways. Car parking is pretty expensive (especially short term) though, so public transport may be a good option.
Routes and Airlines
Manchester is a big airport, and flights go to pretty much everywhere in the world. There is also a wide range of airlines, from expensive to budget. We flew with JMC last time, and have been with KLM from there too.
