I'm a regular flyer (with work) and I pass through Manchester airport on average once every 6 weeks (coming or going). I've been doing this for 5 years and before that I probably flew from Manchester 3 or 4 times a year so I've seen it change a lot. Obviously it has grown with the addition of the new terminal and runway and there was a period a couple of years ago when my opinion of the place would have been unprintable. However these days I have to praise the place. It has easy access from all directions and is well signposted. There are regular bus links although I don't even know if there is a rail link (sorry). I've always found it to be an easy place to get around in. Check in is usually fast and efficient (at least with the major airlines it is) and there is a good selection of shops on both sides of the 'doors'. There is a childrens play area provided in the departures lounge along with a couple of bars and cafe's for the adults. The airport tends to be kept clean and the staff are usually helpful although I have seen people having an 'off' day and being rude. It happens sometimes unfortunately. I've only had one major delay at Manchester in all the time I've been travelling through and that was with one of the minor charter airlines at the peak time (mid-summer). We were given 2 meal vouchers and a fistful of drink tokens for our 7 hour delay. I'd advise any one thinking to stock up on Duty Frees (Ciggies) to wait until you get where you are going unless you have a brand preference. They are usually cheaper in the country you are going to, at least that's what I've found. The worst times to fly are weekends. Do yourself a favour and fly mid-week. (You'll also save the weekend departure tax) Manchester airport: Better than the London equivalents at any rate!
