My first and last visit to The John Gilbert
Review of The John Gilbert by Matthewjpotter

Advantages: Friendly staff
Disadvantages: The 'food'

...girlfriend and I went to the John Gilbert to enjoy a nice sunday lunch. The building looked nice enough, just a typical chain pub and the staff were very friendly. Afrter ordering a drink we decided to go for the carvery. Unfortunately for us, what passed for food was without doubt the worst meal I have ever had the displeasure of eating. I had a slice of gammon, which was fatty and full of water, and a slice of bone-dry turkey. The veg all tasted ...
...the brocolli was yellow and had clearly been boiled for so long it leacked any nutritional value, and the carrots were were over-cooked and had no taste to them yet were really hard- I'm quite impressed that that is possible!! To be fair the roast potatoes were quite nice but any pleasure derived from this soon evaporated when faced with the solid brown boiled potatoes and the inedible stuffing. The pièce de résistance came in the form of the most ... Read review

I feel like a stuffed crust
Review of Pizza Hut, Manchester City Centre by yukkibear

Advantages: nice food
Disadvantages: some branches are filthy

...we decided to go to Pizza Hut for lunch. I have been to two different branches of Pizza Hut and one has disappointed me greatly, and the other is wonderful. The disappointing restaurant has been open much longer than the good restaurant, and has peeling wallpaper, etc. The age of the restaurant is no excuse, and to be honest it put me off visiting for ages. A wonderful thing happened when a new branch opened up in Bournemouth, nr Winton (my local). ...
...Pizza Hut). Instead the walls are painted in bright colours, lime green, bright blue and yellow. The restaurant itself is very airy and large with ample seating which isn’t crammed together. Admittedly we usually go at lunchtime when it’s not very busy, therefore service is faster than it probably is a peak times. Today service was extremely fast, with drink re-fills taken care of even before our glass was emptied. The staff uniform ... Read review

Probably the best nightclub in England!
Review of Tangled at the Phoenix by carminator

Advantages: Banging tunes, excellent atmosphere and lovely people
Disadvantages: You'll never want to go to another nightclub again!

Tangled is Manchester's longest running house and trance night. Having remained under ground for all ten years it is Manchester's best kept secret! Tangled is situated on Oxford road, Manchester, sandwiched in between The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University. The venue is 'the Phoenix' a popular student pub by day and a much loved venue for many different club-nights by night. Tangled is the most successful of the nights ...
...electro or even house classics Tangled is the place to be. Downstairs in the main room the resident Dj's and promoters Terry Pointon and Phil Morse play a mixture of house, progressive house, trance, progressive trance and techno. They steer away from the commercial rubbish and try to play as much underground music as possible. Guests downstairs have recently included Hybrid (a massively famous dance outfit), Futureshock, King Unique, GTR, Agnelli ... Read review

Tasty and Fast - The Food Isn't Bad Either!
Review of Metro Cafe by Joscyn

Advantages: Clean, efficient, lovely food
Disadvantages: Only one womens toilet, unless you are brave.....

The Metro Café was recommended to me by my sister who had been there a couple of times and I now go there every week. Metro is situated on the High Street, just a few paces up from the Debenhams store, or across the Road from the Arndale High Street entrance. Meals are served from 11.30, although they do have light foods before this time, such as Welsh Rarebit, scrambled eggs or beans on toast and of course all day breakfasts. Some examples from ...
...in onions, spaghetti bolognaise; and vegetable lasagne, spaghetti carbonara, spaghetti Neapolitan and quiche for vegetarians. Which makes a nice change from the usual choice of cheese salad or frozen lasagne. There is also a choice of sides, such as onion rings, various salads; and a decent selection of puddings (or desserts, even!) Beverages range from beers and wine, to a selection of teas, coffees, and soft drinks. I had on this occasion, the ... Read review

Pink and Proud
Review of Mutz Nutz by PERFIDIOUS

Advantages: A queer extravaganza
Disadvantages: Toilets can get extremely messy

...from Top Shop. The Mutz Nutz situated in the notrious 'Village' the predominantly gay clubbing area in Manchester. The club itself is a fantastic dingy basement club open to poofs, fag hags, drag queens, lesbians and students. Tuesday nights host the fantastic 'Poptastic' where DJ John spins out cheesy gay classics by revered artists such as Kylie and S.Club. However, Mutz Nutz do try to cater for everyones needs the club is split into two with ...
...the best. Overall the Mutz Nutz is a club that welcomes all no matter what your sexual preference is. I would advise heterosexual Ciaoers to be aware that although members of the gay community are renowned for being able to spot the only straight person in the village they do sometimes get it wrong. Having a sense of humour and the ability to laugh off such advances is always a must. ... Read review
