Manchester is a place which I visit fairly regularly for business - well to be strictly honest I visit Salford more often - so when I had the chance to visit the City Centre for the first time in ages, I jumped at it. Saturday March 19th was a glorious day, more like June! Piccadilly Gardens, which have been dramatically revamped, were full of people, all of them having a relaxing time in a very laid back atmosphere. There was impromptu open air entertainment and lots of ice cream and coffee on offer. The town offers every type of retail experience, to suit all pockets - literally, with stores ranging from the excellent value Primark, Dorothy Perkins, New Look, River Island etc to Selfridges, Harvey Nichols & Kendals. I also appreciate the number of independent retailers in all sectors who are still trading in Manchester. This, for me, enriches the whole shopping experience. There is also a wonderful cafe bar culture here, not to mention a large number of pubs many of which retain period features. Manchester is a brilliant example of a city which has completely reinvented itself. The trams add to the feeling of being "on the Continent." Even Piccadilly Station has been completely transformed, with its coffee shops and bars. So I can confidently say that Manchester is a very worthy place to visit. It also has at least 4 theatres and a number of museums ranging from the Lowry and the Imperial War Museum at Salford Quays, to the Museum Of Science & Industry at Castlefields. Oh, and if you need a room for the night it is spilling over with hotelaccommodation! My only disappointment is that the Granada Studios Tour has now closed. I used to like having a walk down Coronation Street!

A sunny day in Manchester? And I missed it! Seriously, Manchester City Centre is really a nice place these days, with the work following that unfortunate bomb a few years ago. I havent been to Granada in about 15 years, and it is a shame they closed it as I would have tried to squeeze another visit in, on a hectic tric home, Helen

Sounds a great place to visit. I've never been, but I hope to someday. ~Liz
