Advantages: Not far from Edinburgh Centre, very clean. Disadvantages: Rooms a bit small
...The Strathallan GuestHouse in Mintoe Street, Edinburgh, is a very friendly and comfortable stay. It is a family run establishment in a large double fronted house, ten minutes walk from central Edinburgh. Although the rooms have had en-suites built into them, reducing the room size, they are still very clean and comfortable. The owner is very accomodating and breakfast is as much or as little fried food as you can manage as well as fruits and cereals. All in all a lovely guesthouse, which I would recommend to anyone. I will definitely be returning there....

Review ofViolet Bank House, Edinburghby

Advantages: Disadvantages:
...My wife and I stayed at Violet Bank House in July 2007. Set in a lovely location overlooking the Water of Leith and easily reached by road it is an ideal stopover for anyone visiting the Edinburgh area. The rooms are large and tastefully furnished with two lounges for guests to use. Books and DVD's are available for entertainment with whisky and sherry available for guests. Reta and John will go out of their way to help guests in every way possible, nothing is too much trouble for them. Lastly but definitely not least the breakfast is to die for, check the menu on their website if you doubt me and remember this is all freshly prepared for you not pre-cooked and left to fester as in some establishments. Violet Bank House has been awarded a five star rating by the Scottish Tourist Board and these five stars are fully merited....

Advantages: Excellent Value for money, Close to the main attractions, Nice area Disadvantages: None that I could see
...I have stayed at the Kensington GuestHouse twice now, once for business and once as a tourist. Both times I have had a very comfortable stay and been well looked after by the hosts Bill and Bea.
Where is it?
The Kensington GuestHouse is situated on the main road through Holland Park. It is one of those places which is walking distance from town, but at the end of the day feel like you got away from all the traffic and millions of people in the center.
Getting there…
I traveled down the country on the train ending up at Euston. By purchasing a sub-way ticket I was at the Holland Park tube station in about 20 minutes. The Kensington GuestHouse being two doors down from the station! There is also a bus stop outside the GuestHouse where you can catch the normal London Red Buss into town, or be dropped of by the National Express coaches...
