...Take a break from the big tourist attractions and try the air boat rides at Boggy Creek. There are a number of tours available (including one hour night tours for the brave and a Wildlife Safari) but the most popular one is a 30 minute tour on an 18 passenger airboat. After a leisurely meander through a canal the boat whisks you across the lake at high speed. You can spot alligators poking their heads above the water, numerous turtles and birds as you whizz through the wetlands and tall grass. The boat captains know of the whereabouts of many of the lake's inhabitants and use their knowledge to guide you to the best viewing sites. Take note - there may be a few surprises on the tour. Advantages: The lifeline of Dubai.
Disadvantages: Crossing the Creek at peak hours is a nightmare.

...Dubai Creek has been the focal point in the developmet of Dubai since the past100-150 years. Dubai was very famous for pearl trade and the Creek was instrumental in making Dubai a very famous port. The Creek is about 14km long and divides Dubai into Bur Dubai and Deira. The best way to see the Creek is aboard a Dhow, which is the name given for the traditional boat. Smaller water taxis called Abra are also available to cross from one side to the other . The Shindaga Tunnel is the Tunnel which was built under the creek in the 60's to enable quick and easy access to the most thriving part of Dubai, the Gold Souk. Both the Gold Souk and the spice souk lie on the deira side of the creek. The Al Makhtoum bridge crosses the Creek and traffic across it is horrendous. Advantages: Beautiful. Large. Filled with things to do.

...and smelling cow patties. *The West End. Oh my God, this is my favorite part of Dallas! It's a tiny little strip off of West Commerce street that looks like a homeless shelter in the daytime. The buildings are old, with peeling paint and a few broken windows. There are winos staggering about all day long. It's truly a nightmare - that is, until the sun sets and the lights in these various bars and clubs come on. It is a very small section of Dallas, but packed with loud sounds. Take a walk down the street and you'll be bombarded with the sounds of live music - everything from jazz and latino to modern rock and even blues. It's the best place in Dallas to unwind - especially if you enjoy our local bands (The Toadies, The Nixons, Pantera, et cetera). *Several Concert Venues.
