Advantages: beautiful location, fantastic staff Disadvantages: you cannot walk to the city
We decided to book Spencer on Byron as our first stop in New Zealand as this hotel had the best reviews on a rival site, and was within our budget at about £40 per night.
We landed in Auckland at 11 pm, tired after a 24 long trip from London. As Spencer on Byron is right across town, we got a good look of Auckland at night - beautiful. The taxi driver actually asked us how come we had picked that hotel as most tourists want to be closer to the city. At this stage we started to feel a bit worried about our choice, as in my experience taxi drivers are a good source of information on where to go and what to do. However, after a 35-40 minute long drive much of it through green luscious suburbs, we arrived at the hotel. The taxi ride cost us $80, including tips (you do not need to tip in New Zealand, but old habits die hard). As we ...
Advantages: Great place to see views of city Disadvantages: It is a city and New Zealand is so much more beautiful to go rural
who loves walking as there is not much else to do on the island. It was a great way to see views of the city and to explore the island.
Night life:
Auckland is very busy at night and has a great many places for evening entertainment; a lot of the bars have great live music. Places to stay:
This all depends on your budget. I was backpacking and found that Auckland has a great many hostels available for backpackers all ranging in price.
A tip for anyone backpacking, look around town before using the internet at any of the hostels as we found a place ...
Advantages: everything within easy access, friendly people, great atmosphere, plenty to do. Disadvantages: becoming a victim of its own popularity.
Those who just pass through Auckland on their way to the thrills on offer in the rest of the country don't know what they are missing. Auckland has it all - beautiful beaches, mountain ranges, volcanoes for the nature lovers, and fabulous restaurants and night life for the more outgoing. I meant to spend just a few days there whilst I found my feet but ended staying for four months, then returned again after seeing the rest of the country and spent another year there.
On arrival there are plenty of places to stay, suiting all budgets. I started off in the YHA hostels at the top of Queen Street, which are much quieter than many of the others situated downtown. I quickly found like-minded people and found a place to rent for a reasonable price - if you need an agency there are a few on K-Road. Nice places to live which are close to ...
