Advantages: Amazingly beautiful and peaceful Disadvantages: little nightlife, little shopping.
What an Island!
I went to Zanzibar last year with the rest of my family where we stayed in the MAPENZI BEACH CLUB HOTEL (on the east coast) over Christmas. These 10 days spent in the sun where some of the most relaxeing and enjoyable of my life.
The landscape and scenery where awesome as well as peaceful. From the paradise blue and white beaches of the coast to the ragtag beauty of Stonetown (the several hundred year old, Unesco World heritage city), there was a lot to explore and see.
Don't miss the slave memorials and statues, the colonial house museum as well as the small streets and local shops (where you can put your price haggling skills to good use.) There are pretty much no western shops so don't expect to find your next Gucci bag there.
The resort itself was supposedly the best around the area (we got a
lot ...
Advantages: Comfortable, clean, good staff Disadvantages: A few faults, doesnt live up to expectations
This review is about my Christmas party experience at the Strand Palace Hotel.

We booked ourselves in for the three-course carvery meal, and then Channy and I (the office babies) were sent scuttling around collecting everybody's cash (£33 per head). All was sent in when a couple of weeks later, the girl calls me ...
Advantages: Great market food and masai jewellery. Disadvantages: You can't walk about on your own.
The ferry across to the island from Dar es Salaam can be quite expensive, and tends to fluctuate quite a lot. We paid about $50, for the return trip. It takes about 3 hours to get across, and it can be very bumpy.
We were met at the port by a guy called Halim, who took us to the hotel, arranged trips for us etc, etc, but it is very easy top get from the port to the centre of StoneTown by taxi ? don?t worry, they will find you.
The hotel was pretty run down, but comfortable, but we didn?t mind, as we knew that we would only be spending one night there before going up north to the decent beaches.
There are many restaurants, most pretty awful, where you can get everything from pizzas to curries, and there are always plenty of people willing to guide you to them. Another option especially y for lunch is just to go to the local ...
