Advantages: Stunning scenery! Disadvantages: food, a bit of a culture shock
Marrakech has always been high up on my list of places to visit, so earlier this year I packed my bags and set off with a friend to explore the city.
We flew with easyjet from London Gatwick to Marrakech Menara airport, convinently located around 15 minutes taxi ride from central Marrakech.
Morrocco has a closed currency system meaning that Morrocan Dirhams cannot be brought into the country or taken out. There are Bureau de Changes located throughout the city and they accept most major currencies including pounds and euros. The two main languages are French and Arabic, although English is widely spoken along with many other languages.
A word of warning - Marrakech is a city where you have to haggle and haggle hard. Never accept the first price and be prepared to walk away! Prices quoted are usually 2-3 times as much as ...
Advantages: Selection is great, prices- the cheapest or one of the cheapest in the World. Disadvantages: Too many small shops and traipsing through all of them can be tiresome.
Location and Travel :-
The Gold Souk is in the Deira part of Dubai. If you happen to be staying in Bur Dubai you can take either a bus or a taxi to the Gold Souk. As it is so famous you need not tell the driver the location, he will take you there. From Bur Dubai the easiest way to go is through the Al Shindaga tunnel as you will have to cross the Creek. If you are staying in Deira, it might be either walkable or a short cab drive away. Plenty of local maps are available--the tourist desk at your hotel should be able to provide you with one. When visiting the Gold souk it is also worthwhile to step into the nearby fish market which is really huge and displays a wide array of fish, prawns and crabs(you will be surprised at their different colours).
In the gold souk there is loads to walk so tired legs are inevitable at the end ...

I along with four friends, travelled to Marrakech - three of us only staying for 2 nights (literally 48 hours!) and the other two for 3 nights.
Believe it or not, there is an abundance of things to do and places to see in such little time! From the famous Souks, Djemaa el-Fna, The Kutubiyya Mosque, and of course the delightful Atlas Mountains! And so much more!
We left the cold and rainy London on December 7th 2007 and just 3 and a half hours later landed in a warm and sunny Marrakech! To leave a climate of probably less than 10 degrees Celsius and in the same day be in a climate of more than 20 degrees Celsius, is pretty amazing!
I stepped out of the plane and my ...
