I have relatives who live in Kent and there are two marriott hotels located not too far away - the Bexleyheath Marriott Hotel and Marriott Cheshunt. I don't go to Belxleyheath as the hotel has turned me away before due to the fact they have overbooked.
The Marriott Cheshunt hotel is located just outside of Cheshunt town centre, so you'll need a car if you want to get into the main town. The hotel is nicely done inside and the staff are pleasant. I have paid between £80 - £110 to stay here including breakfast. The rooms are nice size and I have always had a room over-looking the inner courtyard. As is standard at Marriott, the beds are very comfortable (in my opinion the Marriott bed is the most comfortable out of the main hotel chains).
The rooms are nicely furnished with a sofa, desk, tea and coffee making facilities, and a nice en-suite. The wall paper in my room needed re-doing though as there were black marks on the walls were shoes and suit cases had clearly been knocked against the wall and left a few marks.My room also had opening doors leading out onto a very small balcony, which was nice. The en suite had a bath with a built-in shower, and nice toiletries - bigger than usual bottles of soap and shampoo which was great as normally you have to ration them if their are two people in a room as they don't give you enough. Plenty of towels also which was good.
The hotel is completely non smoking which is brilliant, as too often even when a room is supposedly non smoking it is evident that someone has been smoking in the room anyway. The hotel is located within reach of Stansted and would make a good stop over if you plan to catch a flight from the airport.
I have had both breakfast and an evening meal at this hotel and I can say that the food is very good (if a little pricey). The breakfast is a continental buffet but also includes a full English breakfast. You can have breakfast in bed, although I believe you have to pay a service charge of around £3.00 for this. If you do plan on getting breakfast at the hotel then try and get it included in your rate when you book as otherwise you will end up paying around £20.00 per breakfast, which personally I think is over priced. Evening meals are very nice with plenty of choice and all food is properly cooked and service is fast and efficient, although it comes with a price, around £30.00 per head for a main course, dessert and glass of wine. I was very surprised when I was eating in the restaurant and the waiter asked if I had been to the hotel before and when I replied yes he said "I thought I recognised you, nice to see you again, welcome back" - a nice personal touch which is rare in chain hotels these days. I went to the bar and had a coffee when I arrived, one cup of cappuccino was around £2.50, which in my opinion is over the top.
I checked out of the hotel at around 11:50am (check-out is midday) and was driving away when i realised I had left my coat behind, the hotel was very good when I returned and had my coat ready to hand back, which was good. I'd recommend this hotel, although it is expensive, so try and get it on a good rate.
