Another Marriott review from me I am afraid as just returned form the Marriott Glasgow Hotel on business! It was the first time that I have stayed at this particular Marriott hotel but again I was very impressed by the standard of the hotel, rooms, staff and cleanliness. Some people have said that these hotels are expensive compared with other brands but I think that it is worth paying a littel bit more as with Marriott you always get excellent, comfortbale hotels with very good staff who always go that extra mile to hepl guests to feel at home.
This is not the nicest looking Marriott from the outisde as it is a bit of a 70s building but it's much better once you get inside!
Location:
The hotel is very easy to get to by car and is just a few
minutes drive off the M8 motorway. It then only takes about 5 or 10 minutes to walk directly into the city centre so the location is excellent. Onsite parking is also complimentary for hotel guests which is a real bonus.
General information about the hotel:
No pets are allowed at the hotel, apart form pets supporting people with disabilities.
Check in is from 2pm and check out is by 12 noon. The hotel check in process was very fast and smooth and took less than 5 minutes in total. As I am quite a frequent visitor to Marriott hotels there was even a complimentary fruit bowl in my room which was a very nice touch.
The hotel's official rating is: AAA Diamonds: 4
The hotel can arrange car hire (albeit at a premium another guest told me!) There is also laundry service as well as a gift shop/newstand although the major national newspapers are available in the lobby daily as well as a newspaper being delivered to your room on working days (Monday to Friday).
The room:
The room is what Marriott term as being the 'room that works'. I must agree that I do think all Marriott hotel rooms do work as they are well designed, functional yet elegant as well as offering nice little touches inlcuding turn down service in this hotel and chocolates on the pillows which I always like! My room had two queen size beds which was fine but didn't leave too much room for too many other things in the room to be honest!
The rooms at the Glasgow Marriott are quite spacious but not a large as other Marriott Hotels, but perfectly adequate. My room featured one large bed as well as a very nicely sized bathroom. Complimentary coffee and tea making facilities were provided in the room (but not enough milk!!) as well as a television featuring remote control, cable and satellite as well as in room movies (charge payable locally). The room also featured a minibar and the prices were pretty standard for hotel minibar prices (£1 for a mars bar/snickers).
The room was air conditioning and an iron, ironing board, trouser press, hairdryer and in room safe were also in the room.
Where to relax and eat?
There are two main restuaranst at the hotel Chats Cafe Bar which serves American fare at lunch and dinner and Mediterrano (Mediterranean) where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner.
A full English (featuring continental selections) breakfast was included in my room price and breakfast was excellent with a good range of hot and cold dishes that would suit all dietary requirements with a broad range of healthy (and some more unhealthy) foods! They had a great range of fruit and other 8 different fruit juices to chose from!
I enjoyed a very nice dinner in Mediterrano which features a wide range of Italian style meals as well as fish on the menu. Dinner for 2 course for 2 people including wine and drinks was just over £60. The waiting staff were excellent and provided just the right amount of pampering and attention but without being too over fussy or intrusive during a quiet meal.
Bookings:
In some of my other Marriott and Renaissance ops I have outlined the Marriott Rewards collector scheme where membership is available via Marriott's website. Marriott have recently issued a new promise that they guarantee that the CHEAPEST deal on ANY Marriott hotel room ANYWHERE in the world will be found by booking directly with a Marriott hotel or via the website. They will refund any difference if you do find a better deal.
For a mid week 2 night stay you can expect to pay from £90 per ROOM per night. AT weekends adn during holidays there are good deals on and it worth rining the hotel and checking the wbiste to get the best deals.
Nearby?
The hotel is very close to a wide range of local amenities and is well locate for both business and leisure travellers. If there for a short break you are only 35 miles or so away from Edinburgh and local attractions include the massive Glasgow City Shopping Centre (many famous high street names here but worth a visit)
If you are on business or a wannabe whiz kid, the Stock Exchange is located less than half a mile away!

I have been there and once was enough. I was insulted by an employee who thought I was a tart at night. I would not recomend to anyone. Jacqui

good review...as I live near Glasgow, I know EXACTLY what LostWitness is talking about...the area is very upmarket during the daytime...but as soon as darkness falls it's swarmed with "ladies of the night". Apparently it's a great hotel though! Marc
