I went to stay at the Marriott for a weekend away with my boyfriend last year. I had read that the hotel was central but was still surprised when we arrived to see just how close it is to the city centre. It's fantastic! I can't even say it was five minutes from the shops or anything, because it was more like one minute, if that.
The hotel itself is in Trevelyan Square, which is lovely and seems almost secluded, despite its central location. I was really impressed with the appearance of the outside of the building when we arrived.
I was less impressed about the fact that the hotel had no car park. We had to drive round to a nearby pay and display, which although it was very close, perhaps two minutes walk away, would have cost us about £20 if we wanted to leave the car there for the weekend, which was certainly a disappointing addition to the cost. In the end we moved it to a free spot right on the outskirts of the city centre to avoid paying, though of course we really should have checked in advance....
When we got into the hotel the staff were really friendly and showed us to our room. This was big, clean and comfortable, with a decent sized bathroom. A hairdryer was provided, as was an iron, and if we had wanted it, there was an internet connection. The mini-bar was well-stocked, but expensive.
That night, we ate at the hotel restaurant, where the food was exceptionally good. Breakfast was also fantastic, with a really decent choice of food.
The following day we hit the shops, which involved much less walking that usual because we wer staying so centrally. And I tried out the gym in the hotel, which was great, though quite busy. There was also a pool, which I didn't sample.
That night we went out for a wander round Leeds, which is just as good as everyone says it is, before heading home the following day.
I would definitely recommend the Leeds Marriot to anyone who wanted somewhere central to stay. It does what it claims to do in terms of providing comfortable and quality accommodation and I suspect it would be popular with business people during the week, but it was also handy for a weekend too. It would be particularly good for anyone who was travelling by train!
Rooms seem from the website to start at about £75 a night and range upwards, which I think is reasonable compared to other hotels in the area, though it's certainly not cheap.
