Advantages: It's a bustling, enjoyable city Disadvantages: People don't know how good it is!
I went to Bratislava while en-route from Austria to Hungary. I was really surprised at how civilised it was, I thought it would be an old ghost town but it was totally the opposite - it had massive motorways going into the city which had hardly any cars on at all, so there was no traffic to get held up in and in the centre there were quite a few tower block flats but there were also some nice historical sites to visit. On top of all the history, there were tonnes of high street shops, including a McDonalds and Tesco's!!! It was really comforting to see homely things like that when you're in a strange city.
** Downside **
Bratislava is a lovely city and I would definitely go back and spend more than a day there, however there were a lot of beggars and they weren't just sitting on the streets waiting for money, they were yelling ...
Advantages: Relatively quiet compared to it's near neighbours Prague, Vienna and Budapest Disadvantages: Ironically it sufferes in some respects from not being as well-visited as the above
On Saturday May 1st Slovakia will finally join the European Union, one of 10 states to do so. The names of the lesser known of these states are becoming more familiar so I though it would be a good idea to update my review and maybe inspire a few people to visit a city I fell in love with.
For years Bratislava had to play second fiddle to Prague as Czecholslovakia's main city. As a result, fewer people have visited this city and this has affected the city in both positive and negative ways. Now that Bratislava is the capital of an independent Slovakia, has it's time come?
The city is often visited as part of a Danube cruise or coach tour of the region also taking in the cities of Vienna and Budapest but is slowly becoming popular as a destination in it's own right.
Bratislava is situated about an hour from Vienna by road ...
Advantages: Clean, Location, Price, Staff Disadvantages: Breakfast not included in price of room
Good location at the edge of Old Town pedestrian area and infront of the beautiful grounds of Bratislava Castle. The staff were helpful and friendly and spoke good English. Not a luxury hotel by any means, but location, cleanliness, more than make up for this. Rooms basic but more than adequate, nice fresh clean bathrooms with good shower.
One tip i would give is to avoid the breakfast at the hotel. Theres nothing wrong with it at all, in fact it was quite good but at 8 Euro is was very pricey in my opinion. There is much better value to be found in the town centre.
Overall, a good choice and it does exactly what it needs to do. Good option for a weekend visit to Bratislava. ...
