Metz has lost the martini

Advantages: clean tasting, thirst quenching, cheap
Disadvantages: Availabilty limited, not quite the drink it was

Once upon a time when alcopops were still in their infancy and Ice was a twinkle in Smirnoff?s eyes there was a drink called Martini Metz. It was a refreshing dry drink slightly different from the sickly sweet Hooches, Two Dogs and all the cheap imitations that were around at the time circa 1996. It also came in a funky frosted bottle and a creepy ad campaign. Who remembers the Judderman? They tried a couple of variants such as a still one that flipped, as they were not that nice and also a stronger shooter version. I really liked it but it seemed to disappear once Smirnoff ice and co became popular. So why am I writing this review if this drink is obsolete? It is not. Lo and behold it is alive and kicking. Cold Cold Cafe Martini

Advantages: It's central location
Disadvantages: The food, the service.

Cafe Martini may have been decent before it changed hand some years ago, and although some people clearly enjoy this restaurant I have very little to say about it that's actually good. I went there for my sister's birthday with my family. Obviously what was supposed to be a great evening. Unfortunately we could not enjoy Cafe Martini. Mostly because the service was indifferent and cold and the food came the same way - two meals were actually frozen on the inside. Lovely. The menu, at least when I was there last included some interesting pasta and risotto dishes, which are slightly more imaginative than the typical hightstreet Italian. Fairly uninspiring pizza choices and an ordinary range of desserts. The prices are mostly between £9-10 for a pasta/pizza/risotto based main course. I'd rate this as too expensive for what it is ...

Go get Drunk On Pink Martini

Advantages: A wide variety of music CD contains lyric booklet
Disadvantages: Not easy to find in strores

I just love this album and listening to it is somewhat inebriating?I could stop there but you want and need to know more! Pink Martini's debut album, Sympathique, was released in 1997 on the band's own label, Heinz Records (so named after the dog of the founder of the group, Thomas Lauderdale, Heinz) and has sold over 650,000 copies worldwide. An amazing feat for a band that no-one here seems to have heard of - I tracked down my copy via the internet and my local Virgin megastore where they had somehow kept a copy in the stock room! My quest was actually spurred on by hearing the song Sympathique at a village festival in Switzerland and I just had to buy it!
