Advantages: trendy convenient tasty Disadvantages: bad attitude
when mash and air first opened in manchester, it was a breath of fresh air...one of the first bursts of london-style hip eating to have penetrated north of birmingham..and for locals it was a convenient and relaxing place to eat. The design of the restaurant is great - it's in a corner warehouse on canal street and has a very spacious modern feel...(ask for a banquette table if there's more than 2 of you)
There are 3 levels to the complex ... ...on the 3rd.

Air is more upmarket, specialising in Asian/French fusion cooking - although unfortunately the original chef - the gifted young JAson Atherton has moved on to London... Mash & Air has a lot going for it... during the week it's fun for a drink or dinner.. But at weekends, the place is a nightmare. The door policy is very strict. You need a membership card to get into the bar. Even if you have a reservation for the expensive Air restaurant upstairs, you feel like you're being checked out by the doormen before being let in. And the raucous crowd in the bar hardly sets the tone for a relaxed evening's dining. It seems as though MAsh&Air has tried to be all things to all people - but in the entertainment business, you can't please everybody.
Yes, its true. Mash and Air used to be the place to be, but a number of factors have contributed towards its death. Who knows what the nail in the coffin was, maybe it was the location, maybe the door policy was too strict, maybe the drinks were too expensive, or maybe it just went past its sell by date.
At the end of the day, the Manchester clientele are fickle. They decide a place is cool because members of Manchester United or the cast of Hollyoaks have been there. These people then decide to go to that one place religiously. They queue up outside, they become members and they spend ridiculous amounts of money. The reason - IMAGE. So that they can say that they are regulars at the coolest place in town. Then, one day, Posh and Becks decide to go somewhere else. Your favourite bar is no longer cool. So you follow them there.
Now that ...

The Caribbean restaurant is also very nice; bit cold though due to air conditioning so would recommend a long sleeve top. We ate lime crab cakes for starter; lobster with seasonal veg and mash, and for dessert choc cheesecake.
The Italian restaurant is the closest to the beach, which is nice an romantic. We ate the Italian meat buffet for starter, lasagne for main and cheesecake for dessert.
The main buffet restaurant was one night buffet and the other ala carte. For the ala carte eve we ate, mini burger starter, steak in a sauce with mash and for dessert we ate passion fruit ice cream.
I know I have spoken a lot about food, but it is important if you are going for 14 nights. The drinks were also very good, and there were international brands included in the price.
We decided to come to couples to get married on the beach. The wedding was great ...

Advantages: Location, cost, staff! Disadvantages: No air con :o(
and quickly cleaned up and used glasses/mess!
We didnt have breakfast, but from the pictures it did look tasty! We had a scout round and couldnt find anything that had the price of the breakfast on. There was nothing in the bar, nor in the room that made any reference to the cost!
They do advise if you are in a rush they can supply a breakfast for you to take away. This includes a muffin, breakfast bar and a bottle of water with a few other small pieces of food, again though, no reference to prices :o(
We did ask for a menu for dinner and were advised that the restaurant was funny booked until 8.30pm. The menu looked very nice cost of bangers and mash was around £8.00
--Overall--
We had a good stay and would definately stay there again. The only problem would have been the air conditioning, everything else was fine!
All the staff were ...
