Advantages Authentic Cultural experience, nature experience, excellent cuisine
Disadvantages I had to leave - 2 nights is not enough
I have just spent a 3 week holiday in northern South Africa and Zambia. In South Africa I stayed at Mashovhela Lodge in the Soutpansberg mountains. What a stunning place - it is a nature reserve in the mountains - breathtaking scenery, indigenous forests, crystal clear streams and the sacred Mashovhela rock pool.
It was an ideal place to explore Venda, a fascinating place filled with sacred lakes, waterfalls and forests all filled with spirits and great legends.It is also close to Kruger National Park and Mupangubwe World heritage site.
There were two extra highlights - one was definitely the food, it was just incredible. The other was spending a night in their hammock camp under the stars. Their ranger gave us a course on the night sky which was just fascinating.Thanks Mashovhela I will return
