...Ravenna is a little town (only 135.000 inhabitants) in Northern Italy (I must say it's my hometown) by the Adriatic sea and it's famous all over the world for its mosaics (it's been capital of Western Roman Empire) and in any period of the year is possible to see comitives of tourists from every part of the world that beyond to the pleasure of visiting several basilicas (first of all San Vitale, but also 2 Sant'Apollinare ones, "New" in Via Roma and the other, maybe the most beautiful, in Classe 8 kms from Ravenna), the mausoleum of Teodorico and GallaPlacidia does not scorn also one beautiful visit to the shops of the center.
Unfortunately you can't enter in the center of Ravenna by car, you must park outside (and maybe the parkings are not enough) and then use a rentable bike or by feet to visit it.

Advantages: Mosaic capital, Delicious Food : ) Disadvantages: the weather is hot : (
...a bicycle for free. Delicious food with reasonable pricing! There are not too many tourists like Venice or Florence. If you would like to have a relax and educational vacation, this is the place to be. Some cultural heritage mosaic site opens on special evenings. On weekend evenings, some shops will open till midnight. I was there in late July and early August, the weather is a little bit hot! But most of the shops are having a big sale! It will be very hot to stay in places without air-conditioned. The piazza held special performance or events during weekends for the public for free entertainment. I would love to go there again soon!! ^ ! ^
**Mosaic Heritage Site:
The Mausoleum of GallaPlacidia
The Cathedral Baptistry
Sant' Apollinare Nuovo
Arian Baptistry
The Archiepiscopal Chapel
Theodoric's Mausoleum
The Basilica of San Vitale...

...Bologna. I have been twice in Bologna, once was fro concert on the outskirts, the second time for the wedding of my cousin with a guy from Bologna. I had a chance to visit a bit of the City when we went for the wedding, because we stayed there the night before. To be honest with you, Bologna is nothing special, although the centre is nice, but I remember it as a bit noisy. What was very good was the food we had the night before the wedding, and at the wedding. Tortellini are a speciality from Bologna, and you can also have plenty of good cheese Parmigiano and cured meat, like Prosciutto di Parma. What I found nice, are the mountains just out of Bologna, called Appennini. In summer it can be very stuffy in Bologna and the mountains are never too far away. Keep it in mind if you go there in summer and it is too hot....
