Gee.. where to start... What a tranquil place!! Mavuradhona is similar to Kariba, excepting there is no water.. Unfortunately, I dont have any photographs of our trip to show you just how peaceful this area of Zimbabwe actually is.

There are loads of elephant and other wildlife. If you like walking, there are plenty of hills to climb and the views from the tops are out of this world...

The temperatures can soar to around about 40 degrees celcius and the air becomes very humid and muggy..

Accommodation is very primitive and the "bedrooms" are miniature A-frames with thatched roofs and are only big enough to sleep one couple with a small kiddie in the middle.. The beds are mattresses on the raised decking which are very comfortable nonetheless..

Self catering, you have to ensure you have enough ice and a large enough cooler box to keep your food fresh. There are communal showers (the water is heated using fire) and the ameneties offered are basic. Make sure you have enough batteries for torches and candles to ensure you aren't taking a shower or bath with an unwanted guest!!

There are a few local shops about 15 minutes away, which offer the very basic of commodities, so please ensure you have done all your shopping before you leave on your trip. You will also need to make sure you have plenty of bottled water.

One of the prettiest things I can remember on our trip to Mavhuradona was sitting beside a running stream at the top of a hill and watching small catlets swimming peacefully.. Trying to catch these prove futile... going from placidly swimming around to little firecrackers shooting along in the water..

Cooking is done by fire (in a specially crafted dip in the ground which is built up out of natural slate and concrete, or, if you so wish, by using a gas braai (barbeque). There are no radios allowed and the silence is very welcoming, especially if you've taken the trip simply to get away from it all or to unwind!

To get here, you travel by car for about 3 hours from Harare taking the road to a place called Bindura. I shall add to this Op once I have found the map and photos which we brought with us to the UK when we left Zimbabwe.

Make sure you have a full first aid kit as medical facilities are very limited.

Please remember that there are no activities offered, apart from walking and sight seeing.. Should you wish to fish (tiger and bream fishing is excellent here), then you need to jump in your vehicle and travel at least 20 minutes.. Stock up on plenty of reading material and games which everyone can play. Relaxation is what you visit this area for!! Sunblock is a must as well as something to keep the mosquitos off you!!

If any of you reading this opinion have been to both Kariba and Matobo Hills, this is a cross between the two..

Sounds wonderful, we have been to whluwhlue twice which I believe backs on to part of Zimbarbwe, and this place sounds very similar in the peace and tranquility. Sue
