First the advice. If you are going to use this hotel (a 3* hotel) the best way to get to it is using the air-coach which goes from Dublin airport every 20 min or so. The stop you want is the 'school house hotel' The grand canal hotel is then just a short walk away. The air coach is far cheaper than taking a taxi (could be as much as €30 cheaper) and it's quicker.

One of the hotels big advantages (could be seen as a disadvantage by some). It is about a 15 - 20 min walk from the main shoping area of the city, so this means it is fairly quiet at night. However this also means that it is quite a distance from the big tourist attractins such as the Guinnes store house and the Jameson distillery.

The rooms are large, well decorated, double glazed, clean, are all on suite and as you would expect are serviced daily. The only problem with the room is that the extractor fan in the bathroom is on constantly and it can be quite loud. The rooms have the usual tea and coffee making facilities, hair dryer TV etc. Each room has a code lock safe, you set the code yourself so don't forget it. There is also a direct dial phone and internet access. Naturaly as it is in Ireland the hotel is completely non-smoking in the public areas. As a non-smoker myself I never enquired about if you were able to smoke in the rooms.

The restraunt is very good with a fairly large menu but as you would expect from a hotel of this quality it is rather expencive. (prices when I was there started at € 16 for a main course) However, as with most things, you pay for what you get. Room service is also available but this does carry an extra charge (again when i was there this was about € 4). There is also a seperate bar in the hotel so it will save the walk into town if the weather isn't good. As an extra security feature the lifts can only be operated by first inserting your room key card.

Breakfast is not included in the basic room price. I did not eat breakfast in the hotel as I thought it was rather expencive but they do provide a full Irish breakfast as well as the continental alternative.

The Staff are helpful and friendly and are willing to arrange taxis etc if you need them. Prices start from £65 per night, depending on the time you book. Cheaper deals may be available online. Parking at the hotel is free.
