Both my Husband and I were looking to get away last minute (8th & 9th August '06) and decided to set our hearts upon Torquay. We have visited Torquay before but haven't had the pleasure of staying so off I went on Google to search for hotels/guesthouses in Torquay.
I stumbled across the Meadfoot Bay Hotel and I thought it was great that they had their own website www.meadfoot.com. I browsed the pages and was happy with what i saw, so decided to pick up the phone to see if they had any availability.
Lucky for us, they had 1 room left which was a double and incidentally was room No.1.
The hotel itself is set 200m from Meadfoot bay (a superb, quiet spot with excellent walks and a lovely beach). I decided to take my beautiful sparkly high heel shoes but unfortunately couldn't wear them as we were looking at a 15min walk to the harbour, nightlife and main shopping area. Flatties all the way afraid to say...unless you want to get a taxi of course! - I would say this was the only disadvantage.
The hotel is ran by Chris, Caroline, Gary and Natalie Waters who strive on giving their guests a very warm and hospitable welcome. We were greeted by Gary who was extremely friendly and gave us the impression that 'nothing was too much trouble'. He proceeded to show us around the guest house and I must say I was in awe when we ventured into the 2 main lounge areas. Very sumptious decor, fresh flowers and a lovely open fireplace which was all very inviting.
Other amenities included a small bar, restaurant and toilet facilities.
The room itself was tastefully decorated and very cosy, it wasn't big however it was big enough for the 2 of us! We had our own en-suite (shower cubicle, loo and sink) and wall mounted TV along with the complimentary teas & coffees. The bed was FAB!
Breakfast was fantastic with cereals, fruit, juices, yoghurts on offer along with a full english breakfast, toast, tea/coffee which was served to our table.
Overall I was very impressed and would definately recommend this hotel if you are hoping to stay in Torquay. We will most certainly be visiting again!!!
