i was there for a pilgrimage for 7 days in mecca and 7 in al madina.

but the reception service is terrible......(but i have herd that is common around all hotels in saudi arabia unless they are 5 star)
i also stayed in the jabal omar hotel which is a 4 star hotel which was great. the service is great and also the rooms were alot more spacey and the view was good.
SHOPPING
the shopping in mecca is not all that brilliant but i guess your not really there to do shopping. the best place to leave your shopping to is when you go to al medina
the best shops are the 1 riyal shops. these shops are the eqivelent in the english pound to 15p shops which are great. you can buy alsorts of cool stuff from them...
FOOD
the food in saudi is not all so great. they have all the major fast food chains ( KFC, Pizza Hut...etc) but the rest of the places are not so great. but in the heat you will only manage to eat 1 meal a day.
anyway if you are lucky enough to go on this trip then you will have a great time. i guarantee it... if your not so lucky then sorry u'll have to miss out but you can always read on peoples experiences...
I have been here for several times with my family , praise to Allah who gave the means and time to visit the holy place to perform Omara (small haj) during my childhood and during my adulthood.
You would not feel the same thing if you have been here...No other places could ever give you that kind of feelings...It is truth that if you have good intentions to go to this place, If GOD wills, you will have good journey and would perform your omara or ... ...A lot of shopping places to choose from high end (air-conditioned) and shops that for people like myself. If you know how to bargain the price, this is the time to test your skill. Most of the shoppers could speak basic English or Asian languages like Indonesian or Malay. Actually, the Arabs men are polite to the ladies. Toilets in the hotel are not clean! I think they do not care about the cleanliness of the toilet or how to clean the toilet. You ...

cinema , drama etc. You can watch a movie from a VCR in your house . There are lots of video shops to borrow casettes from.
Shopping is an enjoyable experience in SaudiArabia. You will find most of the shops selling electronic goods, wrist watches , perfumes and gold ornaments . Saudi gold is famous for it’s purity . The expatriates take lots of gold coins when they leave for annual vacation . They sell it for a higher price in their country .
There are two holy places , Mecca and Madina in SaudiArabia for muslims to visit and offer prayers. Non-muslims are not allowed there . Religions other than Islam are not tolerated . Non-muslims have their worship in low key.
Some places in SaudiArabia still looks like a typical desert , though Saudis are trying to make the place greener by planting more trees ...
