Meeru in the Maldives - The best hoilday i had yet!
Its absolutly amazing. Your in complete paradise, surrounded by crystal clear waters, amazing bright blue sky, crisp white sands, exotic vegatation and palm trees, the air is pure and the only sounds you'll hear are the crashing waves breaking over the coral in the distance and the tropical birds happily singing away.

The members of staff are so friendly and can not do enough for you.

The food is served three times a day in the main Farivalhu Restaurant. Even on the hottest day the breeze wafts through this amazing eatery. A tall sloping roof with cooling fans buzzing in the rafters. All meals are set out as a buffet, changing daily, with an amazing selection of food you'll be going back for third's! I've never seen such a wide variety of food, there's something for everyone whether your a child, vegetarian, vegan, fussy or picky.
If you want to try something special then theres 2 other places to eat which do charge however.
There's the Asian Wok, specialising in Thai, Indian, Chinese and Maldivian cuisine.
And for something just that little bit more special and romantic try the Hagern Boat which specialises in serving grilled seafood, beef, and chicken aboard a "restaurant" yacht anchored in the lagoon. Amazing!

Accommodation, wow, well what can i say, a gorgeous room in a gorgeous place - it compliments each other so well.

Having stayed here twice i've experienced two types of rooms. The land Villa and the Water Villa. There are however other rooms / villas to suit every person and budget. Ranging from Standard Rooms to Jacuzzi Water Villas & Honeymoon Suites.

The Land Villa in which i stayed in first are all Fringed around the island, and set back behind the beach vegetation all with wonderful beach and sea views. They are pine villa's with wide, shaded verandas offering a cool retreat at the end of an action packed day. 2 wooden chairs and a table are provided to sit on as you watch the sun go down, or relax and read in a quiet moment.
Inside, the rooms are spacious and airy. A ceiling fan whirrs gently, and the room has a sitting area by the full window overlooking the veranda and out to the sea views. A bed and side tables with Tiffany-style reading lamps add a touch of class. A dressing area with wardrobe leads into an open air, fully fitted, white tiled bathroom, you can shower at night under the stars, a wonderful experience, pure bliss.

The Water Villa's are in a class of their own. The Villa's are so carefully positioned offering breathtaking sea views. Sit on the balcony and listen to the breakers crash on to the reef in the distance, or step down on to the deck to sunbathe with the waves lapping gently underneath you. A few more steps take you right into the sea. What more could you dream of?!

Inside the pinewood lined rooms, a big comfortable 4-poster bed awaits at the end of the day, or if you want to relax before turning in, a sitting area with armchairs and coffee table are provided. Enjoy the natural warmth of a wood floor underfoot. A discreet white tiled, partially open bathroom where you can shower next to a little garden, adds the final touch of style. A definate room to stay in whilst visiting Meeru.

The island also holds a gift shop & Jewelers, a must to buy locally made gifts to bring home for that constant reminder of an amazing hoilday.

The Dhuniye Spa is a lovely treat to pamper yourself after a long day of sunning yourself. Here you can enjoy delightful treatments in a scenic setting directly over the water. In the comfort of 5 luxurious treatment rooms listening to the soothing sound of the water breaking against the reef , the relaxing calmness of the clear turquoise lagoon and the peaceful serenity of the timeless sunsets.

Many excursions are provided, one of which is a must is the Dolphin trip where you set out on a Catamaran with a guide who takes you out into the turquoise crystal clear waters in search for dolphins. Both times i've been i've seen hundreds, they swim under the boat, jump out in front and amaze me with their untouched beauty.

Other trips out and about are -
- Trips to Male (the capital of the Maldives) for shopping and general soaking up of the culture, be prepared to haggle though!
- Island Hopping where you spend a whole day as it says "Island Hopping", visiting all the local islands where the local Maldivians live. You are provided with a beach BBQ and drinks on the trip.
- Submarine trip (in Male) where you are submerged under water in a submarine for 1hour to experience another world!
- Big game fishing & night fishing. The morning fishing excursions take you trawling along the outer atoll, dragging a line on the surface for barracuda, wahoo and jack. Morning fishing is close to the reef, but in deep water.
Night fishing you leave just before sunset and drop anchor near the reef. The relaxed fishing uses sinkers, and all you have to do is sit back and wait for the fish to bite.
Big game fishing is another experience not to be missed. Using a rod, this is an exciting experience. Just wait and see who catches the biggest barracuda.
- Scuba Diving. All types of courses are available form beginners to advanced.

If relaxing on the beach is more your thing then take some time to wander along the shore and wade in the shallows, watching out for stingrays and baby white tip reef sharks - what an experience!

Or if your more like me, rent some snorkling gear from the dive shop and venture out into the sea. You'll see the most amazing tropical fish i've ever seen, the colours are so vibrant and there is such a variety, you'll always see something new everytime you go!

What more do i have to say really. Its an amazing hoilday where you'll be completly wow-ed! Prices are quite high but well worth every penny!
They range from a minumin of £799 each for 1 week, staying in a standard room to crazy prices of around £2000 each for 2 weeks staying in a Jacuzzi Water Villa. (Price quoted by travel agent for my honeymoon).
The first holiday i had back in 2001, staying for 1 week, 2 people in a land villa cost around £2200.
My second visit in 2005, staying for 1 week, 2 people in a water villa cost around £3000.
