We got into Berlin on the train at around 9pm and only had a map of Berlin in a guide book. The underground was hard to navigate for a tourist so we got a taxi to this hostel. It’s a 6/7 minute drive from the main station and the taxi only cost us 10 euros!

The hostel is well located North of Landwehr canal and a 15 minute walk from the centre of Berlin which we managed easily. It’s not hard to miss as there is a big red M outside and an old red car for display. Coming out of the hostel there are numerous cheap takeaways to the left while the right will take you into the heart of Berlin.

There are 7 floors with an elevator. There is a kitchen/laundry room in the basement. They have their own bar next door with a pool table, TV and table football, when we asked what time the bar closes the guy just said when people stop buying the drinks! Our room was a 6 bed dorm and there were 4 of us, we didn’t share with anyone else the whole time we were there. The room was extremely clean as the cleaners came round every day around 11ish. We had an en suite room with 2 bunks and 2 single beds which I luckily got one of. There was also a TV, table and chairs (although you have to pay extra for the TV to work).

They have 12 and 6 bed dorms, some of the 6 beds are female only while the rest are mixed. There are also private rooms with one to six beds. Prices range between £9 for a 12 bed dorm and £33 for a single private room. You can find out more on their website meininger-hostels.com.

Breakfast is free and is set out in a buffet style on the rooftop terrace. Breakfast is all you can eat and there are numerous cereals, breads, jams with hot or cold drinks. The staff are all very friendly and helpful but are strict about noise after midnight in respect for other guests. There is no Curfew and the hostel organises activities such as playstation competitions. There are leaflets about pub crawls and sight seeing tours.

Overall this is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in, it’s cheap, well located with friendly staff. They have all the facilities you could want; Internet access in the reception area, an all night bar next door, en suite rooms and a laundry and kitchen room.
