melaka is a historical town full of little surprises.
its easily accesable from all states in malaysia.
3 hours from kuala lumpur and it only costs 10 rm which is only £ 1.47. melaka has a zoo which is only 8 rm -£1.17. 2 large shopping malls, mahkota parade which also has a cinema, food court, bowling alley and arcade, dataran phalawan has all clothing and some electrical appliances and food court on first floor. second floor is all technology then you have the outdoor garden and picnic area. they also have a big tesco store near the bus station. the number 17 bus from the station will take you through jonker walk, passed the shopping malls and the last stop is at the portugees settlement and then its from there back to central bus station.

a traditional malaysia meal of rice, meay and drink will cost 5 rm or 73 pence.

everything in this review is accurate from november 2006 to march 2007

melaka is a cheap place to eat and live.
a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms will cost 150 rm a month which is only £22.15
so its a cheap place so visit it and u wont be dissapointed.
i lived in malaysia for 10 months with the salvation army in melaka. the people are very friendly and warm to you but you also need to be careful as they willl try and take ur money if you dont now what the average prices are on things but its allways best to hagle on everything that you buy they will take it for the price you say.
jonker walk or china town in melaka is full of little quaint shops with all types of souveniers. it relly comes alive at night the best time to visit is in february when its chinese new year everyone just opens their door to you and they have parties going on all afternoon and into the night.
the nightlife in melaka isnt all bad they have a few hip clubs. the best one that i went to was the sunshine bar at aloha club and bistro they have two bars/clubs but sunshine bar is better. you also have pure bar which have live house band playing every friday and saturday night on top floor and hip hop and r'n'b downstairs and if you want to see some go-go dancer then there is allways spazzo. they have a lot of kareokee bars in malaysia. popular with the older generation but can be funny to watch if drunk you will even end up helping them to sing.
the portugees settelment is also worth haveing a look at and the traditional food is really nice but expensive but worth the amount.
they have festivals in june/july at the portugees square were u sit with a beer in hand and listen to local bands and top radio hosts from kl having a laugh and a joke with the crown. ps if white they will call you up on stage to participate in a game.
a famosa is a water park bout an hour outside melaka it is a really good place to spend the day with firends and family. the weather in malaysia is very unpredictable it can be hot and humid 1 minute and raining and cold the next so allways have a rain coat or umbrella at hand. trust me on that u will get absolutly soaking wet.
