An actual visit to Ramsay Street
Advantages: The Street Disadvantages: Tour was a bit naff
...without a visit to the Neighbours set. As you can tell from my previous review on Neighbours the show, this is one of my favourite shows from childhood and I grew up watching it and was actually very excited at the prospect of going to visit the street when I went backpacking in Australia a few years ago.
The fictional Ramsay Street is set in the fictional town of Erinsborough. In real life the show is filmed in a place called Pinoak Court which ... ...the ones that say official Neighbours tour. If you are backpacking around Australia though all of the hostels you stay at will have information on the tour and you can often book your tickets through them. When I did the tour back in 2005 I think the tour bus actually did pick ups from a number of the hostels too because obviously it’s generally young people that are staying in the hostels and it’s young people who want to go on the tour. Looking ...

More than GREAT Ocean Road!
Advantages: Sights and scenery Disadvantages: None that I can think of
...**GO WEST**
Go West is a touring company which specialises in small group size tours. It is a day tour from Melbourne which will take you to the Great Ocean Road. This tour company has something which I have never seen done before and that is they provide you with a PSP on the way home so you can watch a movie (they have several choices). They even have an educational video about the Great Ocean Road. If you want this service you will have to produce ... ...I was just rearing to go out and see things and not be stuck in a building reading about things, I'm very impatient lol! You could bypass the centre if you wanted and take a short walk to see the 12 Apostles. Now there isn't 12 anymore only 8 left because of erosion. It was extremely windy down there and it was slightly crowded. It was hard to get a photograph with just yourself and the background in it. It was lovely to hear the sea hitting against ...

The Southern Hemisphere's Home of Cricket?
Advantages: Excellent all round views, cheap tickes, great atmosphere Disadvantages: expensive food wth poor choice
Being a huge cricket fan, a trip to the MCG was always going to be one of the highlight's of my cricket club's tour to the Golden Country. Before we'd even got into the ground I was totally overawed, the sheer size of the ground was just so far greater than anything that a cricket fan can envisage in this country. The ground hold 100,108 people - to put this into context the largest ground in England holds just under 30,000!
The first thing you ... ...massive floodlight pylons designed to allow day/night cricket - again, there are no grounds in England with permanent floodlights.
We had our tickets in our hands - printed off with the barcode folded over the correct way and headed through the turnstile. Here was one feature that I was so impressed with, despite the fact that 65,000 people were there on the first day of the Boxing Day test match, there were very short queues and never once were ...

Old Melbourne Gaol
Advantages: Good way to pass an afternoon or morning out of the Melbourne sun. Disadvantages: Not really much to see, but still worth it
To be honest there is not really a lot left to see of the original Gaol, as most of it was pulled down to make way for the University.
All that is left is on three story wing, though it is the wing which contained NED KELLY prior to his execution.
The most famous exhibt, thanks to BILLY CONNELLY, are the wanking mits, displayed in a case in Cell No 13 on the ground floor.
A guide explains via, a model of the gaol what exactly you can see, and ... ...wander round visiting each of the cells, all of which are open, though there are over 30, and in my view once you've seen one bare cell you've seen them all. Story boards in some cells explain the history of transportation & the Australian Penal system, plus the history of the Gaol and the story of Ned Kelly. There is also a chance to walk on the actual scaffold used in Kelly's execution (thankfully now made safe), and to see a replica of Kelly's ...

Melbourne Museum (Australia)
Advantages: Interesting wildlife exhibit and cheap Disadvantages: Cafe expensive and small
I lived in Melbourne for 9 months in 2007 and I visited the museum three times! If you have a healthy interest in interesting things in general it's great! The wildlife section was large and had a diverse range of models and information on animals and marine life native to Australia. There are huge model reptiles and they even had living creepy cawlies! Great for the kids!
There are also exhibitions dedicated to the history of the land down under ...
