Melbourne , My Favourite City
Review of General: Melbourne (Australia) by ruth1957

Advantages: easy to get around plenty to see and do
Disadvantages: not enough time

I love Australia and one of the nices Cities is Melbourne. I fell in love with it on my first visit 30 years ago then in the last year I went over to Melbourne again on a visit and I still got the same type of Buzz which I got all those years earlier. Melbourne is a major centre of Commerce, Indusrt and Cultural Activity. There are a great variety of buildings Victorian as well as Modern. The climate is very similar to ours in the South East of ...
...It is very easy to get around particularly if you are a Tourist. They have a City Tourist Shuttle which takes you around the Top Attractions which you would like to see if you were a visitor. There are 15 stops so you can get on and off them when ever you wanted to. The other plus factor is it will not cost you anything as it is a free service. There are many parks and gardens to visit and the one I like the best is Fitzroy gardens, this is where ... Read review

One of the most livable city in the world
Review of Melbourne City Guide by littlesquirt

Advantages: Cheap, fair and far away
Disadvantages: On an extremely distant continent

...I will head for the Melbourne Observation Deck. Right in the heart of the city, on a clear day, one can observe the surroundings of Melbourne. It cost around $14 for an adult ticket but if you go to their website at www.melbournedeck.com.au, you could actually print out a voucher that will give you a 15% discount. Or, once you arrive in Melbourne, grab yourself an official vistor guide, there is usually a coupon in the back pages. Give yourself half ...
...Melbourne is a walkable city to visit. But a free tram goes round the city, passing some of the attractions, if not, bringing you closer. I hope, everyone reading this, will visit my city, to experience for yourself what I experience daily. Thank you for the read!xx ... Read review

I come from a land downunder
Review of General: Melbourne (Australia) by jakes-mum

Advantages: Lovely clean city full of welsh people
Disadvantages: My husband taught my son to sing "I come from a land downunder"

I visited Melbourne in July last year so this is basically a review of what I saw and what I thought about it. Firstly my husband, son and I all went to Melbourne Australia last year to visit family, namely my husbands grandmother and grandfather, who emigrated out to Australia from Wales many many years ago. The airport --------------- I actually loved Melbourne airport, you walk down from the plane to emigration (you fill in your visa on the ...
...and sends you down the ramp to collect your luggage, you then walk through customs out to the main termial and the exit. The traffic ------------- What you have to understand about Melbourne is that it's nothing like England, these people live beside highways that are basically four lanes or more. For every right turn on these roads, you have an undertaking lane so that the traffic doesn't get backed up behind the stupid git who wants to turn ... Read review

Brighton Rocks... But Very Quietly!
Review of Melbourne City Guide by snowbunni

Advantages: A Beautiful, Beachside Suburb in Melbourne
Disadvantages: Pretty Expensive.

...Melbourne. With Melbourne set to host the 2006 Commonwealth Games in March, it is certain to attract a fair amount of interest over the coming weeks and months. As a Melbourne native, this seemed a timely opportunity to review some of my favourite haunts, restaurants and the like… I feel compelled to begin with Brighton, as I lived there for years & years, and as my parents are still based there it's generally where I stay when visiting from the ...
...a tourist destination outside of Melbourne itself, but it is one of the loveliest parts of the city and well worth a visit. HISTORY: An early British settler, Henry Dendy, who purchased an area of some 5,000 acres in 1841, is generally regarded as Brighton's original founder. By the time of the 'Gold rush', from the 1850's onwards, the area's beaches and natural attractions lead to its emergence as a popular destination for holidaymakers and day-trippers. ... Read review

♫ A Great Place To Be ♫
Review of General: Melbourne (Australia) by zoe_page

Advantages: Tons to see / do / experience / buy / eat
Disadvantages: Colder than some other regions in the country as so far south

I went to Melbourne not for the Neighbours connection as many people do, but for the gymnastics. Whike I was working in Sydney, the 2005 World Championships was taking place at the Rod Laver Arena in the city, and I had a ticket to the Women's All Round Finals on Friday night so decided to make a weekend of it. Melbourne's a 70 - 90 minute flight from Sydney, and you can fly there and back for about $150 if you book at the right time, so many visitors ...
...long weekend or on a stop over from or to Tasmania or Adelaide or Perth. I liked Melbourne, and would go so far as to say I would choose to live there over Sydney if I ever come back to Australia for a long stint. It's hard to pin down exactly why I prefer it, but I think the number of things to see and do and explore in the city played a big part. I started at the top of the city, with a trip to the observation deck where you can admire the city ... Read review
