I lived in Melbourne for 9 months in 2007 and I visited the museum three times! If you have a healthy interest in interesting things in general it's great!
The wildlife section was large and had a diverse range of models and information on animals and marine life native to Australia. There are huge model reptiles and they even had living creepy cawlies! Great for the kids!
There are also exhibitions dedicated to the history of the land down under from the Aboriginees to Ramsay Street!
There's also the I-MAX cinema which I didn't visit myself as it was a bit pricey for a poor backpacker!
The Museum is definitely well worth a visit especially for a mere $6.00 (about £2.40) with free entry for children. One of my top Aussie recommendations.

Heya welcome to Ciao! Its a nice start to a review; you have covered some good ground. Though I would like to know a bit more about the animals themselves. If you edit, let me know and I will come back and take another look! It does sound like a fascinating place! Amy xx
