Advantages: nice beaches, nice scenery, and fantastic staff!!! Disadvantages: bugs! :) i dont like them too much personally :)
...deal on it too, the Melia did not disapoint..while its not a 5* in itself...the staff are the ones who truely make it a 5* to rival the best in the world!
mosquitos are bad...but granted bugs are bad in canada in the spring and summer too :) bring bug spray or as the Cubans like to say about their own solution to the bugs drink more rum to make your less aware of them and the mosquitos drunk too ;)
We went on one excursion ... ...and went to a museum, crocodile farm, a boat ride, and to the sugar mill on a locomotive, which i have to admit was absolutly amazing...a little pricey (75 CUC ) but when you take into consideration that Cayo Coco is an ISLAND linked to the mainland...it can almost be understood :) it was a lot of fun though!

We went on one excursion that was a full day trip to the provinces capital and went to a museum, crocodile farm, a boat ride, and to the sugar mill on a locomotive, which i have to admit was absolutly amazing...a little pricey (75 CUC ) but when you take into consideration that Cayo Coco is an ISLAND linked to the mainland...it can almost be understood :) it was a lot of fun though!
The beaches are fantastic, the pool was a little cold(but again for January in Canada it would be frozen) and the ocean was really amazing, HUGE waves. there were always lounge chairs available at the beach and the pool and there was always something to do, from spanish lessons, to salsa lessons, to volleyball...or simply relaxing.
We had the standard room and for an extra 39 CUC a night it wasnt worth it to me to upgrade.
The food: well...in my opinion it was absolutly great! I have been to Cuba twice myself and i have learned not to have HUGE expectations, however, every time i am pleasantly suprised. the buffett food was a TAD cold if you werent there as soon as it opened, but the selection was great, and there was really something for everyone!
The beverages were fantastic, but keep in mind...you MUST stir your drinks before having a sip :)
This resort is a 18+ resort, and the ages of guests range from 18-80 :) while the crowd when we were there were mostly in bed by 12, there is a disco just down the road which is a lot of fun too for those younger, or just young at heart.
All in all it was a fantastic holiday and I Can't wait to get back to this hotel again!! Awesome job to everyone at this resort.... P.S - If travelling with Air Canada however, they do not provide meals....come prepared :)
Advantages: beautiful beaches & scenery, friendly people, gorgeous weather! Disadvantages: quieter part of cuba
when me and my girlfriend were looking for a holiday last year, the carribbean was always the place i wanted to go, ever since i was little, so we got all the brochures and it was a very tough choice of which carribbean island to go to, they all looked amazing! A cruise was also a possibility for us, but we ultimately decided against the cruise because they weren't all inclusive we felt we would prefer to be on land and doing our own thing. We agreed ... ...the caribbean. The price factor was the next thing we took in to consideration, we really wanted to spend under £1000 each, so we narrowed it down to the dominican republic and cuba, and in the end cuba won it after a lot more consideration simply because of the breathtaking white sandy beaches and scenery. We chose cayo coco resort over guardalavaca in the end also because of the beaches, which was narrowly decided though because we did think that ...

Quick review of Melia Cayo Coco - Cuba
We have just returned and although it is a nice setting, fantastic staff all round including the gardeners, we had a very boring two weeks. Accommodation was nice. Gardens fabulous, pool needs attention. Chips in the tiles all over the place.
Isolated to the point of being just in a tourist setting rather than seeing Cuba as it is - far more interesting and an hours flight from Havana. Very hot, humid and plagued with mosquitoes. Also all of us came back with severe stomach problems.
Go on a two centre holiday or tour around as well before you go to Melia to have a beach type of rest. ...

Advantages: All inclusive hotel only available to over 16's Disadvantages: 9½ hour flight with 5 hour time difference so watch the jet lag
...from my Honeymoon at the Melia Cayo Coco & all I can say is WOW. This 5* 24 hour all inclusive hotel is run by the happiest, friendliest & most helpful staff I have ever met where nothing is too much trouble. You can relax by the large pool or if you prefer you can take the 1 minute walk to the white sandy beach - both of which have plenty of sun loungers. The food in the main buffet is excellent with "cook while you wait" daily selections including ... ...many & varied tours - this will blow your mind. If you are looking for tranquility in an idyllic location, the Melia Cayo Coco is for you. My only warning is to go there in the next couple of years before they start to build any more hotels! ...

Advantages: Everything included, gorgeous beaches, friendly staff. Disadvantages: Not the real Cuba, trips are very expensive, needs refurbishment
My fiance and I have just come back from two weeks at the Sol MeliaCayoCoco in Cuba and had a fab time. It isn't the best hotel in the world, but it certainly wasn't the worst.
Location: It's in CayoCoco, which is a small island linked to mainland Cuba by a causeway. It is about 15 minutes from the airport in a coach, which is particularly good after a 10 hour plane journey! There is absolutely nothing on the island apart from hotel complexes, so don't go thinking you are going to see Cuba, unless you are willing to do a bit of travelling. CayoCoco has about 17km of beaches and the Sol CayoCoco is connected to two of them.
Beaches: The beaches are fantastic - exactly what you expect when you go to the Caribbean - with white sands and crystal clear, blue and turquoise waters. The Sol CayoCoco is directly on one beach and is ...
Advantages: Scenic, different, not too spoilt Disadvantages: Flight
the Iberostar Daiquiri, other hotels on the Island included the 5* Melia and the 3* Sol Club
We visited the north side of Cuba, a couple of Islands that make up the Cayo’s. There is CayoCoco and Cayo Guillermo.
Cayo Guillermo is where we decided to go as it’s less developed and joined to Cuba by a 68km causeway. The Cayo’s are in no way the real Cuba, if you go here you must take trips out of the Cayo’s. The Cayo’s are shut off from all locals and the only Cubans allowed in have to stop at a checkpoint and they make sure they are employees of the four hotels that are situated on Cayo Guillermo. Apart from the four hotels on the Island there is not much more.
We decided on Cuba, as it’s one of the less developed, less commercial Islands in the Caribbean. We looked on the internet for information ...
